Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up playing similar to Chris VandeVelde, with perhaps a bit more speed and playmaking ability. Will be a nice addition, although I'd be very happy with a 10-12 goal start as a freshman.

Yeah, hearing the info about his faceoff ability makes it a no-brainer that he was brought in this year after we lost VV and Zajac up the middle from last season. And with his offensive upside, he'll definitely be given chances at centering a scoring line.

Four centers for next season?
Malone
Knight (Hakstol mentioned his name specifically as someone to fill the Zajac void)
Lamoureux
Nelson

Looks good to me. :)

Will the goofs win the McNaughton? Probably not. Will they get home ice for the first round and be ranked top 25? Yep it's very likely. :)

Wow. Whoop de fricken doo.

They were ranked top 25 at the end of last year. Home ice isn't a goal for the Gophers anymore than it's a goal for the UND Fighting Rutabaga's.

Pretty condescending for self proclaimed "few up-beat comments".

and around mid-season, he'll leave the Gopher program. :)

May as well. After all the New York Islanders are the greatest hockey development organization of all freakin' time.

Is Cepis a Islanders draft pick too?
Geez, for an organization that has said that they don't like the development players get with college hockey, they certainly have a lot of draft picks playing NCAA hockey.
The Sioux now have 2 Islanders draft picks on their roster as well in Gregoire and Nelson.

What worries me about Nelson is they may be bringing him in a year too early. It is tough to go from high school to the WCHA. In order to have success he will need to play on the 2nd line and there really isn't a spot for him there. He is not really a grind line type player.

I don't know about that. I could see Hak giving him a chance to play between Gregoire and Hextall, giving him the defensive help of Gregoire.

I could see him playing on a line with Trupp and Frattin where they just move it up and down the ice. I'm sure he's also going to see some fourth line time until he gets his feet wet and adjusts to the speed of the game.

I think the nice thing is that he's not going to be under the pressure that Kessel, Parise, etc..., felt to be one of the main contributers right away.

I didn't even see the rain cloud known as ScoobyDoo roll in, it just started raining and everyone put on their sad face.

Home ice should be a goal for the goofs after last year's performance. Condescending is aggressive scoob and im not giving Happy high fives and towel snaps for just showing up, this isn't the goofer thread.

I actually learned more from the soundtrack than the post. :p

I met Mark Mazur (Spider's kid) the other week. He says he played at UND '79 - '83. Any of you old fa..., um, seasoned veterans remember this guy and how he did?

Did he say what he played at UND? I was there during those seasons and don't recall the name at all. Either he's pulling your chain, he was some sort of walk-on who never dressed, or my memory is failing me faster than I feared.

A Mark Mazur played in 4 games for Bowling Green '79-'81 according to hockeycb.com while I didn't locate an even remotely similar name on any ND roster during those years.
