Just curious, have new hockey jerseys been designed without the native american head yet? If so does anyone have a picture?

Also, are they in the process of picking a new mascot or are they going mascotless?

No, UND can remain the Sioux for the 10/11 season, so they will still have the same logo for this upcoming season.

Just back from a trip to Grand Forks. I walked into the student union and was greeted at the door by Hakstol and Eades. They were showing a recruit and his family around campus. We talked for a few minutes. Here's something you rarely see - Hakstol smiled!

We also get a tour of the Ralph by one of the hockey players. We saw the locker room, training room, weight room and more. Very cool!

Nice Summary of Toews Day 1 with the cup at: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=534054&navid=DL

Interesting to note the following:

  • Instead of one day, Toews gets 2 days with the cup.
  • In day 1 Toews has Hockey Rink and Lake named after him, gets Key to city, and is declaired "Winnipeg's favorite son".
  • In the parade Toews held the cup tightly while also showing off his new Olympic ring.
  • In parade Toews let fans touch cup he held in one arm and gave high fives with other arm.
  • In Winnepeg Toews is more popular than the Queen of England.
Word around here is that Toews drew a bigger crowd today than the Queen of England, who was in town last week.

Day 2 started out with the Jonathan Toews golf tournament where in a Q & A session one of the kids asked a very difficult question and Toews gives an excellent response:

Leave it to a bunch of kids to ask tougher questions than seasoned hockey reporters.

"Did the Stanley Cup change (friendships) because you beat a lot of your Olympic teammates to win it?"

Toews, stunned a bit at the question, proceeded to tell a story.

"Last week the Olympic team got together again in Edmonton to get our rings and Mike Richards, the captain of the Flyers, is from Kenora (Ont.) and he had to drive to Winnipeg to fly to Edmonton. We were on the same flight and since we are hockey players people were looking at us. We sat right next to each other for the entire flight and I think people thought we were going to fight."

After drawing laughs from the crowd, Toews continued to say they are friends off the ice and that's what makes this so special. They can remain friends despite the on-ice competition.

"We are classy guys," he said, speaking for hockey players at large.

Isn't this technically incorrect since the name and logo will be changing before he ever plays a game there? (darn shame about that too... stupid NCAA).

The name may change, but if the name changes to Dakotans, does the logo need to change???
