Union College Dutchwomen 2013-2014

Re: Union College Dutchwomen 2013-2014

Syracuse are on a hot streak this weekend, no shame in losing to them :-)

Re: Union College Dutchwomen 2013-2014

Congrats to Dutchwomen on starting ECAC play with a nice win tonight over Dartmouth.

I have some postgame reaction -

Audio of Union head coach Claudia Barcomb on the win, and tomorrow's tilt vs Harvard - http://picosong.com/qJZF/

And a video with comments from Dutchwomen goaltender Shenae Lundberg and forward Mac Purvis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnBN8EJhkmc

Lundberg posted a shutout, while Purvis' first period goal proved to be the eventual game-winner.

A piece that ties that together: http://unionhockeyblog.blogspot.com/2013/11/dutchwomen-snap-ecac-drought.html

It's interesting that we haven't heard a lot from the "fire the coach" crowd at Union lately. Nice to see the progress this team is making.

Definitely showing progress this season, but you have to temper that with the realization that their wins are all against teams in the bottom 2 in their respective leagues (Providence, Connecticut, Penn State, Brown) with the exception of Dartmouth which is only slightly above that spot. Still, they lost these games in the past so this is definitely good progress for them. I thought their early season win against Providence was more meaningfull than it has turned out to be given Providence's horrendous performance this season against expectations. On the flip side, the Connecticut win is proving to be more meaningful as they actually win some games. We'll see if the progress holds up for the entire season...right now they are in a playoff spot and that would be a massive accomplishment.

Union has to beat Yale tomorrow. Yale isn't looking like anything great, and Union has to win those kind of games, especially at home.

So much for that indeed.....Not sure what the comment was based on. Yale tied Quinnipiac the weekend before, and then beat RPI before facing Union.

See Dutchwomen sophomore forward Jessica Kaminsky's hat trick from ‪Union's 6-4 setback to Yale on Saturday:

It's the only hat trick for Union hockey so far this year -- men's or women's.

Congrats to her on that great performance. Pretty sure this a rare feat. Begs the question: How many other female players have recorded a hat trick for Union in the past ?

Not many. Kaminsky's hat trick was the program's first since 2006.

Union has 2 junior forwards and now already has 2 verbal committed junior forwards for 2015. I know people on here have been critical in the past for their recruiting strategy. So, does this signal a big change in tactics?
