Union College Dutchwomen 2013-2014

Re: Union College Dutchwomen 2013-2014

I've been primarily going on season performance regarding Union's lack of success because I have only seen then play twice in the last 2 years and don't consider that a big enough sample size. But I will say that in those two games i observed the following:

- Team played OK until they gave up the first goal and then seemed to cave and gave up 1 or 2 more quick ones. Speaks to the team's belief in themselves and character - just didn't seem to think that they could win after being scored on.
- Defensive zone play was at best confusing. I've coached and played a fair amount of hockey over the years and I honestly could not figure out what they were trying to do. I do know that they had enormous trouble getting the puck above the faceoff dots on the breakout without turning it over and that the defensemen seemed unsure where they were going a lot of the time.

Does anyone know will Union stream the Providence Games this coming weekend? I can't tell anything from the schedule?

Dunno...try the ECAC website. If there is a video stream, you'll be able to find it there.

Edit add: ....Link to ECAC Schedule: http://www.ecachockey.com/women/2013-14/schedule

No video listed at this point, but that could change as game day nears.

Yes, go to link below. I think the cost is about $8 a game, used to have a better deal for multiple games with a month membership but not offered anymore. Quality is typically not great; a single camera, no replays or announcing, etc. though was slightly better last year (at least the camera can zoom now).

So Union actually won a real live D1 game this weekend and no Union supporter thought that was worthy of a post??!! I mean, I know it was UConn, but still you don't get that many wins!

Good to see Union get the season off to a positive start, and I do think they will be better this year....but....keep in mind that they started last year with a win against the same team.

I did put something on the blog, though I wasn't at UConn for the game.

How's Providence supposed to be this year? They're coming to Messa for two this weekend.

Re: Union College Dutchwomen 2013-2014

Should be a great series! There is info on the Providence Friar thread.

They return 81% of points from last year when they were 9th in the nation in scoring. Defense is the area of opportunity as they finished 30th on D.

Forwards - PC has very good size and scoring balance and a number of returning double digit point scorers plus two incoming Carels and Weber who looked very good against McGill. Has ability to roll 4 lines.

Returning 9
Haley Frade, JR, 35 games, 31 TP, 13 G 18 A, +6, 5-10 PIM
Molly Illikainen, SO, 34 games, 30 TP, 12 G 18 A, 0, 9-18 PIM
Corinne Buie, SR, 34 games, 26 TP, 15 G 11 A, -3, 7-14 PIM
Brooke Simpson, JR, 35 games, 26 TP, 7 G 19 A, -7, 4-8 PIM
Beth Hanrahan, JR, 35 games, 20 TP, 14 G 6 A, -4, 8-16 PIM
Allison Micheletti, JR, 35 games, 10 TP, 3 G 7 A, -1, 1-2 PIM
Courtney Kukowski, SO, 35 games, 7 TP, 4 G 3 A, +1, 3-6 PIM
Brittney Thunstrom, SO, 33 games, 5 TP, 0 G 5 A, 0, 6-12 PIM
Stephanie Demars, JR, 32 games, 1 TP, 0 G 1 A, -3, 1-2 PIM (redshirt)

Additions 2
Cassidy Carels, FR, Pembina Valley/Canada U18 Bruxelles, MB
Janine Weber, PG, Vienna Sabres/Austrian National Team, Innsbruck, Austria

Defense - They return 5 D who played bulk of the time last year. They are good defenders and get into the offense zone play. They have added 4 freshman so good depth.

Defense - Returning 6
Rebecca Morse, SR, 31 games, 21 TP, 5 G 16 A, +1, 13-37 PIM
Maggie Pendleton, SR, 35 games, 19 TP, 3 G 16 A, +3, 10-20 PIM
Lexi Slattery, SO, 35 games, 19 TP, 1 G, 18 A, +9, 24-48 PIM
Lexi Romanchuk, SO, 35 games, 9 TP, 3 G 6 A, +1, 9-18
Victoria Virtue, JR, 24 games, 8 TP, 2 G 6 A, -4, 9-18 PIM
Suzie Lundeen, JR, 31 games, 2 TP, 0 G 2 A, -2, 3-6 PIM

Additions 4
Kendra Goodrich, FR, Rosemount HS, Rosemount, MN (HS teammate to Friar Alison Micheletti)
Liv Halvorson, FR, Benilde St Margaret HS, Richfield, MN
Arianna Reid, FR, Lakeville South, Lakeville, MN (her HS Coach was hockey legend Natalie Darwitz)
Ariana Buxman, FR, Shattuck St. Mary’s, Glenwood Springs, CO

Goal - They return all 3 goalies from last year - Bryant a sophomore played bulk of games but senior Riley played in playoffs.
