UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Chairs?

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha

Hard to talk the talk when you can no longer walk the walk.
Speaking of walkers, we'll get back to you, Nick, in 2018 when we really can start rebuilding.

Hard to believe there was once a time earlier this century when there was a legitimate comparison.

By the way, this is the 30 year aniversary when 63 year old Charlie Holt announced his retirement because the program had slipped and he recognized that he no longer was a good steward for the team.

The master of subtlety strikes again!! :D

I'm personally fond of the 1998 title game myself ... :D :p ;)

yeah, I miss the old days too - this place has gone soft.

Chuck then have at it!!! Us cheerleaders will just fade into the woodwork...Seasons tix came today so that will keep me happy and occupied. 😉

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha

Ah, the good old days of debating with the BC folks that UNH was talented but lacked good coaching.

and 8th in the Writer's poll.

Well it is what it is...and we'll see how it all shakes out. We know what we have. And sorry...I read some of those writers tweets pffft....UNH could win the NC and they would be hard pressed to find anything good in that...Just the way I read it...AND...heck, 8th is HOME ICE like wildcatdc says. Never know where that can take ya! Bring on the season already! I've got tickets burning a hole in my purse :p

and those tremendous old style UNH block letters on the fronts of the jerseys. God it reminds me still of how much I hated it when they moved to the slanted "modern" look, which was apparently in vogue back then. Now it's probably passé ... what I would give to see the 'Cats in their old uniforms ... BS35+2, are you paying attention? Talk about a cheap, simple fix to freshen up the place a bit.

Precisely why I chose to frame and hang my block letter white jersey in my DC office rather than the slanted one. One exudes class... The other.... Meh.

Received my first set iof UNH season tickets. Feels a little weird to be looking forward to going to the Whitt every weekend instead of Agganis.

I've seen this movie before:

Mark Divver
‏@MarkDivver
PC AD Bob Driscoll: Talking with Nate Leaman about 'lifetime' extension keeping Leaman at PC for as long as he wants to coach in NCAA.

Of course, Leaman might have ambitions and ability to be a pro coach -- notice the phrasing.

ps FWIW dept Brett Pesce logged 18 mins in the 'Canes pre-season opener last night! Go Brett!!

Yeah, the key is in the phrasing, for sure ... :D

HR - that comment about the "place going soft" basically goes to the whole "silo" mentality that exists across these boards nowadays. Not sure what happened while I was *away* but it seems in recent years, teams' fans restrict themselves to a running narrative of one single program-related thread. It seems rare when a joint interest thread gets started which invites participation from beyond a single program's fans, and even rarer that such a thread actually succeeds in generating quality discussion. And those old *discussions* would often get lively. :)

Different times now, and I'll stop here lest I further cement my reputation as a "grumpy old man". :o

Bad board admins banning good posters. That's what happened.

It didn't help that we had some strong secondary factors going on as well: BC world domination (2001-2012) put an end to the 1949/BC sucks stuff especially the 2008-2012 run which was just absurd and the Hillbilly programs went into rapid decline. Plus the BU Fanboy proliferation that made flamefests not cool and fake journalists reporting back that the BU player (pick one since they are all criminals) "I know would never rape someone" a much cooler thing on the board. Hooooooo boy.

Imagine going from "1949" and having Shawn Walsh behind the bench to having neither the next season. Crazy times in the good old days.

Remember some of the earlier (older) stuff, got busy with other things circa 2003/2004. By then, as you say, the edge of the "1949" stuff was obviously gone, and (sadly) so was Walshy. In fairness, no one since has come close to Walsh in his ability to generate heat about even the most menial issues. He was a pretty good coach too, as events have since borne out. And then the BC dynasty years reshuffled the deck in terms of competitive prestige etc. for the next generation, and finally Coach Parker was out, too. Coming back then, I knew what Rip van Winkle (no relation to the van Riemsdyks BTW) felt like after being away from the action for a few years.

Imagine going from "1949" and having Shawn Walsh behind the bench to having neither the next season. Crazy times in the good old days.

Totally agree. There was at least a 5 year stretch on these boards (1998-2003) when it was really lively stuff, all the time. Got to meet a lot of great folks in the process, too. But nothing lasts forever. I can only hope now that UNH manages to beat Lowell to the Holy Grail, now that powerhouses like Yale, Union and Providence have beaten us to it.

Re: UNH Wildcats 2015 Offseason - Future Planning ...or Just Rearranging the Deck Cha

Talk to me in March, writers. Go 'cats.

BTW anyone else notice this: Fri., Feb. 19 Boston University at New Hampshire 8:30 p.m

Excellent; that will make travel to the game a lot easier for me.

Oh, I've heard about the 'tron. Will be sitting behind the hubs in 101 row B.

See you there?
Yup. Will be there Sunday - just me, no husband.

What perplexes me is the utter disappearance of weekend series threads. With the exception of the crazy upper Midwest teams (Gophs, SCSU, UND, Mankato, etc,) I just don't see the number or depth of game threads we used to have.

I was always interested to see which team would open the can of worms on Tuesday or Wednesday in the run-up to the weekend series. I think we all lost a good chunk of time at work in the run-up to the BC series having rational and respectful (cough) discussion with the likes of Chris and FSteve. It was also a great place to plan logistics, pre-game festivities and meet-ups with common/opposing fans.

I realize that the nosedive in performance for we, the toothless hay-huckers, has not helped matters. Even so, let's bring the game/series threads back to HEA!
