Entertaining, but actually relatively tame compared to the older stuff. By this time, BC had separated themselves by way of multiple NC's (with another one on the way), so the pushback from the UNH and UMaine contingents was less compelling by then, in comparison to the level of flak from earlier years.
I'll say the apex of the real "Wild West" days at USCHO was back between 1998-2003, when UMaine, BC and UNH were all regularly in the mix for the FF. And at the start of that passage of time, UMaine and BC had one NC apiece - UMaine's with a hotly-debated asterisk back in '93 courtesy of Walshy, and BC's dating back to 1949 and the era of wooden pucks (per Bobo

). And UNH was knocking at the door looking to join the club. BC lost in the '98 Finals in OT, UNH'ers gloated and then karma bit us in the backside when UMaine beat UNH in the '99 Finals in OT. 2000 was UNH's famous flameout to Niagara

, and then in 2001 BC matched UMaine with their second NC (and first with the conventional vulcanized pucks

). In 2002 and 2003, UNH finally won their first two (and still only) HE Tourney titles, but pulled a team "milk carton" against UMaine in the FF semis (this time UMaine would lose the Finals in OT

), and in the 2003 FF, UNH took defending NC Minnesota into the 3rd period tied, before turning into pumpkins in the final 20 minutes.
There were plenty of skirmishes after that, but once UNH (and then eventually UMaine) stopped making deep runs into the FF, it wasn't the same heated debate it used to be. BC winning the NC every other year just lifted "Bandwagon Nation" above the fray. Their *charm* used to be that they acted like perennial NC's for years before they actually reached that level. Like they say, it ain't bragging if you can back it up. And their program certainly did that for them. Spoilsports.
Well written AMC stuff by SteveF ... brings back great memories of Adam Pinneault, Eddie Caron and Travis Banga .
