Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

Moy has UNH switched with Michigan and going to Worcester for a rematch with North Dakota in the first round..
he has Michigan in St. Paul vs. St. Cloud

I wouldn't mind being an easy drive away. But if UNH were to make it to Detroit out of that bracket, they would certainly quiet a lot of naysayers, especially backing into the NCAAs like this.

This bracket is almost as bad as the NCAA basketball tournament... every team has flaws... I wouldn't be surprised by anyone winning it all...

I have UNH in Albany against St. Cloud for Round 1...seemingly harmless. Should we make it to round 2, however, we take the winner of Wisconsin/UVM.

Rock, or hard place?

don't you want North Dakota again? that would be both, the rock AND the hard place!

If the Wildcats can upend North Dakota, that would silence all the naysayers...while setting up a guarantee of at least one HE team at the FF (assuming BC gets by Alaska).

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

No one honestly believes this UNH team is anything but a one and out regardless of brackets do they? seriously.

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

UNH is well rested , jacked they get an opportunity to play one more game , there's something to be said about that , either they will lay a dud from rust or come out flying and defeat a few teams . I wonder what the record is of teams that had the week off heading into the playoffs . UVM last year was one i can think off , they won 2 games and went to the frozen 4 . Im exspecting big things UNH has had time to vent hopefully they can execute for a full 60 min , if they do they can beat anybody especialy with a hot goalie

St. Cloud, is hardly a cakewalk. They play with a lot of team speed and have quite the 'older' team. doesn't mean better.. 3 '85's- but I did catch the 3rd period of their game with UND yesterday and UND was fortunate to walk out of there with the W.- as the play hardly left their end the second half of that period.

Worcester looks a bit more inviting now then when I left yesterday.. I certainly won' tbe complaining to see them there.

You've forgotten one minor thing... they lack the talent, and the coaching, and they usually lack the postseason desire. Other then that they should do just fine.

As always there a lot of naysayers until you win the top prize and there can be only one. These players have nothing to prove to the fans as they have exceeded projections. They have something to prove to themselves and fellow teamates and this is why they particpate in a sport they enjoy. Good Luck UNH

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

I am thinking UHN vs Cornell in Albany for attendance reasons; after all it was the really sharp-eyed Cornell fans who spied the UHN placards in Worcester in 2003. I am also thinking DU - RIT in the Albany bracket, with Wisco - UVM and St. Cloud - No. Mich. In the St. Paul bracket.

Since this is only active UNH thread, will note here that Norwich won Division III championship. 3rd for coach Mike McShane, UNH '71.
Classic game btw. Winning goal at 99:31 on Cadet's 72 shot.

Very cool info -- thanks, 5 Islands.

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

No one can be certain of what the players have or haven't learned, we can only hope that a review of their past failures will help going forward. As for Maine, their fans should be super proud of their boys in blue and I would have liked to see them make it as well, however Wilson was exposed tonight for the weak goalie he is and it only would have been worse in the regionals. With Darling maybe, but no way Wilsieve. Nyquist certainly is a special player and they have a good supporting cast. However, UNH is deeper and more talented than both Maine and Vermont and IF they are prepared and bring their A game will represent HE just fine.

Well, head-to-head, UNH went up on Maine both games in Orono, and couldn't hold the lead to a supposedly thinner team, and VT played us tough all season, and shut us out for just about 7 consecutive periods of hockey. Yet, VT looked the weakest of the 4 teams in Boston this weekend.

In Wilson's defense, Nemec slid the puck into his own net on Lombardi's 1st goal, and the shot by Almeida was unbelievably lucky, as he spun CCW and put the puck on net. The puck must have had eyes to make it through. And Muse let in just 1 fewer goal than did Wilson.

The question yet to be answered is, will UNH bring their A game, and when is the last time we saw it? (edit: OK, so that's 2 unanswered questions.)

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

Glad to see UNH get in as they deserve to after winning the reg season title in the toughest league in the country.

And losing in the quarters didnt hurt Vermont last year to much.
Toughest league is disputable this year.

That said, Maine also lost in the 1/4s what, 3 years ago, to UMass, made it anyway to the regionals, where they won their 2 games (one against UMass) before losing the 1st game in the FF. So, further success is possible, given recent history, but if past performance can be any kind of indicator, the future looks blue, and not in a good way.

Re: UNH Wildcats - '10 Playoff Edition

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but winning in the tournament is basically about two things: (1) having talent and (2) playing well. In the postseason, UNH has almost always been deficient in at least one area and has often been deficient in both. I'd love to see things change, but I can't imagine it changing this year because regardless of who they draw, they're going to be at a disadvantage in department No. 1.

That said, you can't win it if you're not in it, and they're in it.
