You can see how Quast's graduation is gonna decimate the blueline for the foreseeable future.

Not sure how that has anything to do with it, he barely plays now. The big issue is just the overall talent level on D. It's an issue, but also a potential positive to have Boyd, Marks, Maller and Chanter, all in the same class. UNH can start fresh. The Nova Scotian watcher mentioned, along with Mendel and Harrison would be the type of fresh start I'm looking for...

But they have to move on guys ASAP - Mendel and Harrison will get tons of attention and Mendel is a high W draft pick as well I believe (he's not waiting around until he's 20 for UNH to bring him to Durham - and neither is waiting until they're 22 to finally get out of the Whittemote Center stands).

So, in retrospect maybe they're not the type of defenders UMile would want...

Sarcasm can be tough on the Internet. HR picked it up :) ... Dan, well, not so much. :( ;)

But I think it's fair to say we're all seeing the same (glaring) shortcoming.

I'll feel better about the new recruiting team if/when I see some future "answers" in the pipeline.

Ahh, my mistake. BTW, Chuck, I believe you are being paged to the BU thread...

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2018

Well, its nice to think they're adjusting their strategies, building relationships and targeting higher end kids, but I hope they don't take too long. They're going fast out in BC, too - Tufto off the board today (Quinnipiac). Time for them to take note of the kids they like and pounce, before its too late. They can start here...

* F, Jeffrey Stewart, '98 - http://www.bchl.ca/leagues/rosters_...&leagueID=2393&teamID=440059&playerID=1243856

As far as the British Columbia midget ranks, they should just follow the Penticton coach around as he recruits for his team...

From twitter:

Brad E. Schlossman ‏@SchlossmanGF
Word is that Denver and Providence are currently the front-runners to land Penn State transfer Scott Conway, who is lighting up BCHL.

Re: UNH Recruits: 2012-2018

Nice article on BC's Jerry York, who is one of the two NCAA coaches older than UNH's. I found this section illuminating viz. the discussion of UNH recruits leaving when Borek left because they didn't know anyone else at the program.

Always enthusiastic

Many come because BC is a place rich in hockey tradition, a perennial national power. But they also come because York still pursues recruits with the zeal of a man half his age.

Case in point: The weekend before Christmas he wasn’t wrapping presents for under the tree with his wife Bobbie in Watertown. He was on a plane to Edmonton to watch a kid someone told him was worth seeing and he headed there with the joy of anticipation that for many college coaches fades over time.

“You can’t teach enthusiasm,” Cavanaugh said. “He’s got it in spades. I can’t ever remember a time he wasn’t excited to go see a kid play in Red Deer, Alberta!

“That love of hockey still drives him. He still wants to see that next kid. It’s remarkable. He has a passion for it every day.”

I'd bet money the Edmonton trip was to see this kid, who I'd love UNH to get

Great to hear from you, Steve - another blast from the past pokes in to say Hi!! :)

Not too often Umile regularly skates a frosh in the top 2 lines this early. Sounds like your son's former teammate made a good decision on where to get early ice time. Continued good luck to him, and please post more often!

Saw your post Chuck, I should be lurking a bit more on here this season. Yeah Mason Jobst is looking good and Ohio State took out BC and Cornell this week in Florida (highlights of the Cornell game if you are interested Jobst is #26, had three assists on the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg2Um7QK_2c), the Buckeye's could be an up and coming program in the next couple years. UNH is up and coming as well I hope, we shall see. Stinks not having the Ice here in Indianapolis anymore at least for the time being, no USHL teams to watch these days.

RE: Nova Scotia Recruiting Trips

From USHR's September (Recently Free) Archive...

"Morgan Barron, late ’98 F, 6-2/182, #16 York Region Saints U18 (St. Andrew’s College) – Halifax, Nova Scotia native is a north-south winger, a catch-it-and-shoot-it type. He hides his release well and the puck just jumps off his stick. A power forward in the making, he could add more physicality to his game by getting in quicker on the forecheck and trying to force turnovers, etc. Played last year for the Newbridge Academy Gladiators (Nova Scotia Midget Major)."

Same Canadian prep-school as Foegel & Fregona...

With MacDonald confirming that Stewart was out recruiting this weekend, I can only hope he's looking for someone to fill Foegel's vacant scholarship and add some balance to the offensive attack...

I know they played Brown yesterday but wouldn't be surprised if the HC didn't go out to help seal the deal!
