UNH Offseason Contract Edition.

Heard DU was in the building last night but no sign of MS7. Maine sure travelled well lots of blue jerseys. Excellent game to watch the first not so much.

At least someone from UNH had the balls to show up. The fact that Scarano couldn't represent the school to accept his participation award from Hockey East only demonstrates his lack of class and professionalism. Doesn't present UNH in a good light.

Does it surprise anyone that MS7 wasn't at the Garden last night? His contract has been executed and he must be very, very tired from his three or four media scrums he's had since Christmas. Unless, of course, he had early morning confession before 7am Mass to cop to his ineffective prep for the Maine game and utter inability to coach a powerplay. That's what I'm going with. Shame and Catholic guilt.

In the NESN pregame I believe they said he was at the men's basketball tournament supporting Colgate in their game against Baylor.

Like it or not, UNH Hockey has lost a generation of fans. What's the age of the average season ticket holder, mid to late 60s?

Stands to reason, as why should fans attend games at the Garden or the local Regionals if their team is MIA?

But, good for fans returning to the Whitt this past season, which should continue next season if Hellsten and the first line stay out of the portal and the MacPherson twins are as good as their 4.0 scouting reports.

No idea..I know quite a few STH's most are.my age (60 and above) and a few that are not. The younger ones are more likely to dump their tickets...tho I know a few who gave them up when DU started to lose his edge and have never come back to my knowledge.

Of course we aren't privy to such info...would be interesting to know.

BTW the fact that I didn't see MS7 at the games last night does not mean he wasn't there..

Are our twins the possible 'equivalent' to Maines Nadeau brothers? At any rate holding my breath to.see what happens to our roster in the next few months...hope it holds up.

On goalie watch especially...

Ps being a twin myself will be cool to see
these two come in!

They’re losing their hardcore fans as well. Gave up my season tickets this past year after almost 30 years. Our group of friends used to have 14 season ticket holders in it (sat together for decades). We were the final three from that group, now there are none. Myself and some others from that group also served as board members of Friends of UNH Hockey, unfortunately the university destroyed that too. A genuine camaraderie of UNH hockey fans also lost, or least greatly diminished.

I think just by walking around the concourse and looking at the fans around me in the stands on my one visit to the Whitt this season with your ticket, HRef, that I can fully agree with Grouchy (i.e., it takes one to know one :-) ).

How many Grouchy’s do we have posting here now? Watch out, e.cat, there also may be an e.Grouchycat lurking out there.

My earliest childhood memories were going to Snively in the late 70s and have been attending games ever since. At 49 and 50 respectively, my wife and I feel like babies in our section. That said, she commented this season, "Jesus, these boys could be my sons and not in an ABC Afterschool Special type of way!"

My old name was locked out for whatever reason and perhaps an indicator of early onset dementia, I picked GrouchyCat forgetting about the legendary Grouch of lore. Consider me Grouch 2.0

I used to get 'oh, do you have a son out there' (which pizzed me off because do you have to have children on a team to be a fan??) Now it's "oh, do you have a grand son out there"
To those comments I now say "are you a fan of xyz New England team" and when they say 'yes' my reply is "oh, so you must have a child etc out there' which usually stops that convo
dead in its tracks haha. (for reference my non hockey friends/relatives don't get my obsession with hockey/following a team)

And yeah, I have a grandson and he's freaking incredible!!!

Sad but true. UNH took a back seat to NO ONE a generation ago when it came to turning out for away postseason games. It's probably the only reason the NCAA still gives Manchester a Regional every once in a while, despite the fact that the "home" team never makes it any more. Need look no further than the oxygen thief Blue Skies, who squandered a virtual monopoly in the state when the Monarchs arrived, and he decided to roll over and take a nap, when the appropriate response would have been to compete to retain your loyal customer base.

Let's not forget, Commish Nigel himself is complicit in that as well. Hilarious, Blue Skies apparently ghosted him on his big participation trophy ceremony night LOLOLOL. Total classless scumbag.

Shameless promotion of a new book from a former student (remember that Patriots cheerleader??) about a zamboni seeking validation from
the 'other trucks'...

Looks like a cute story...grab one for your young hockey enthusiasts!

Only 8.99 on Amazon 'the Mighty Zamboni'!

Check it out..

Pretty sure UNH bids for it because it is well attended and the U breaks even or makes money, it is good publicity for the school. "Once in a while"?!? UNH has hosted nine times (2004, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2023) and will again next year. The only cities hosting more regionals are Albany (12), Worcester (17).

At least the first half of those were during a time where UNH were probable playing hosts, not hosts-in-absentia. The four year gap between the last two was on my mind when I said "once in awhile", so I'm glad they're hosting again next March. I'll be there, and agreed it's good publicity, but SO much more could be done that's just ignored. And there's no excuse anymore, as the old "competition" (Monarchs AHL/'Coast) are gone and have been for awhile ...

Love it!! "GrouchyRef" has now left the building!!

UNH planned to host in 2021, decided against it due to health/attendance concerns.

It is ironic that UNH is so intent on hosting men’s regionals and women’s frozen fours, yet so content enabling the implosion of their actual hockey programs (and those responsible). It’s never occurred to anyone that if it is this exciting to host high-level hockey events it might be even more thrilling to once again participate…??
