UNH Offseason Contract Edition.

About half done with snow removal, as needed to take a break.

Agreed that MS7 should not be wasting any time “being seen” locally as he needs to spend every waking moment lobbying his best players not to leave via the portal and attending as many Penticton Vees BCHL playoff games as possible. Maybe do some recruiting while in the Vancouver area also.

A friend in Norwich VT says they got 30 inches! Am catching some lax at Dartmouth (tv) before trekking to the Whitt...they plowed up the snow for the game big mtns of it.

Not funny Mother Nature!

Let's gooo Badgers! A NH player from Salem on the team..

So true. UNH winning the games against Army and UVM would have given them a pairwise ranking of 12.

It's just SO UNH ... do the hard stuff (sweep Northeastern, take two from UMaine, add wins against tourney teams BU, Quinnipiac and RIT, and uncharacteristically sweep 3 against UML) ... and gack against the doormats down the stretch. Good luck compiling that combination of wins next season. Coach Carvel sends his regards, MS7 ...

It's gonna be absolutely fascinating (possibly telling) to see what transfer portal activity looks like in the not-too-distant future, plus a Hellsten decision. As much as Carfagna was missed this season, an upperclassman version of Carfagna has left a hole in the future recruiting matrix that hasn't been filled (yet), and Dunlap would have been a strong bottom-six forwards contributor. And that doesn't even mention Chase Stevenson leaving, as his decision may have been academics-driven as a graduate student, but he was still an on-ice miss.

I sense there is some confusion on here about what I'm expecting of a post-extension MS7. In short ... I expect him to do everything he's been doing over the last 90 or so days, and then some. Once ATW (IIRC?) gets the details of his latest contract extension, I strongly suspect we are gonna find out that Coach Souza has over a million (pre-tax) really good reasons to be busting his arse every waking moment of his existence, at least until he returns the program to at least something approaching prime Umile status nationally. Does that start with his current roster? Yup. Ensuring the most-valued incoming recruits remain on course to be here this Fall (including Sadowski)? Yup. Scouring the portal for diamonds in the rough like Gildon and Hellsten? Yup. Dragging your butt to the HEA Tourney weekend games and the Women's FF at your rink? Opportunity lost - as our old/new pal Grouchy says, you are now owned lock, stock and barrel by AD SugarBritches (sorry that's still too good to resist lolol), so you need to get out and circulate. Be visible. At least act like the super-successful D-1 coach you're being paid so well to impersonate, OK??

You and your guys should be out there at every opportune moment, stacking up future recruits for years to come, now that you're able to crow about a "turnaround", an extension, a winning record, etc. BC isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. BU isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. Now UMaine is on the rise, and I strongly suspect they are only getting started, and won't be going away anytime soon, either. So you are one of eight (8) other programs basically vying for one (1) remaining slot in Boston, and in the national tourney from your conference. Two of the other eight teams are led by guys who've won D-1 titles for their current schools, and then there is your old boss Luce, who is probably still trying to leverage Coach York's four (4) D-1 titles as "his" to some degree. Bazin has been to the FF early in his time at Lowell. Northeastern can point to Beanpot dominance. So where does that leave you?? With Merrimack and UVM, both of whom have had teams make it to Boston more recently than UNH.

There can be NO resting on any laurels, when there are literally NO laurels to rest upon.

Resting on the beach in Aruba isn't gonna get anything done. So chop-chop, there's work to be done, get to it!!!!!!!

We all know that MS7 has been watching his Jane Fonda 20 Minute Workouts to limber up for the inevitable whiplash he's bound to experience when the undergraduate portal opens tomorrow morning.

For a Division 1 Coach of a once proud hockey program, it is baffling to understand his absence is local circles and his utter inability to promote his team, his program and the University at large. Hasn't he realized that Uncles DU and Blue Skies aren't around to tee up the ball any longer and that Sugar Britches is a demanding Mistress?

MS7 is acting like a freshman member of Congress, the dirty little secret of which is that all newbie reps are dialing for dollars in a call center adjacent to the Dirksen Office Building to fund their reelection campaigns. Their job isn't to represent their respective districts or provide constituent service, it is to get reelected.

Now that MS7 has extended and has a three year stay of execution, I'd be curious to understand what his plan actually is. Right now, it seems like nothing more than adopting a Field of Dreams Strategy. "If you build it, they will come" mantra seems naive at best and intellectually lazy at worst. While I understand UNH is not a Tier 1 academic institution (despite its insistence that it is), does he have any training or education that has actually prepared him to facilitate to what amounts to a full blown corporate reorganization? Just being a hockey player doesn't cut it. It isn't 1977.

Hey you said he needed to be seen...but yeah doubt he will be there.

If there is a buck and a photo opportunity and the promise of a no show "consulting" job for the second half of 2024, I'm sure Scarano will be at the Whitt supporting whatever team will pay his mercenary prices for "moral support" and "administrative advice". Better yet, he can set up a booth in the lobby to hawk his 12 step, copyrighted, system, used by such esteemed hockey powers as Miami of Ohio, UML and Harvard, "How to Destroy a Once Prominent Hockey Program Without Even Trying"

What Would Dickie U Do?

So true. UNH winning the games against Army and UVM would have given them a pairwise ranking of 12.

How about if CC had not lost to newcomer Augustana College (who?) at the beginning of the season, the Tigers would have made the NCAA’s, along the RIT Tigers.

Really enjoyed the Women's National Championship yesterday...the NCAA did a bang up job from the media all the way to the
presentation of the trophy, etc. No sightings of MS7 but did see the HE commish there and the usual UNH notables that go to most games.
Not ONE penalty called in the game of course the women can't hit but they did mix it up on occasion..

What I will say is they could skate and just to be at an event like this was fun. Those Wisco fans next to us were quite vocal too I might add..
Kudos to Ohio State for getting the clutch goal on a very nice play. Well done ladies on both teams!

Anything to put us on the front page since the rest of the hockey world around us are busy talking about hotel rooms, what to do for
two days in Springfield... I mean what IS there to do for two days in Springfield.. while UNH fans reminince about the past...

As usual. Ho Hum. Anyhoo, moving on 'coz what else is there to do?

So good luck to Maine! I always enjoy watching Cornell fans and their newspapers when the opposing team is being announced, its a hoot!
That Cornell team always shows up so be ready.

Welp getting ready to go to Fla for a few but will catch the games online. Psyched to get away from the winter for a bit.

Have fun at your big games folks may the best team win...

Grouchy HR has left the building.

So I guess we'll see if Ryan Conmey will stay or go this week. He'd be a big loss and if he bolts you might see Sadowski brought in next year, even though I think he should be anyway.

There's debate about if Sadowsky is ready (I know I know) but if we do lose said player then guess maybe? Roster will evolve going forward one way or the other..

Have heard the portal isn't open til March 31 for undergrads ..anyone know the time table?

Edit thanks deltabravo for the info on the portal..March 31 I think

I heard that the portal opened for undergrads today and closes on March 31st, but that closing sounds too early, especially compared to what I remember last spring.

In any case, I do not see any UNH players in the portal yet, so maybe that is a good sign.

Quite a few hockey bloggers I follow list skaters when they enter so that's how I usually get my info and of course websites that feature it.

And of course our UML friend usually tips us off all things UNH so I'm counting on him as well!!

The portal is open for undergrads from March 31 to May 14. The only non-graduate portal entrees as of now are players who's program is changing coaches - i.e. Stonehill, Lindenwood, Miami, etc. There are several Robert Morris undergrads in the portal - so either they're making a coaching change quietly, or there is some exception for that program and its student-athletes related to the cancelation and return of sport sponsorship?

Other than those excepted programs, its only graduate transfers at this stage - some decent players, a lot of filler...

Thanks for this portal explanation, Dan.

Dan thanks...what's your take on Sadowski coming a year sooner (if necessary). Hes a great player to be sure but I don't think UNH would be making a mistake given the current roster they have to have him skate a year in the Jr's?

Off the top of my head not sure where he's heading next season....
