UNH Offseason Contract Edition.

I mean...it won't be hard...seems like it's every game that the DIHL appears! We can't see the team from where we sit but I usually go hang out in the Ozone for the
second so I'll keep a close eye on it from here on out haha.

As you know there's a lot to be said for body language. I taught an interpersonal relationships class and I think the stat is something like this:

The 7-38-55 Rule indicates that only 7% of all communication is done through verbal communication, the words we speak, whereas the nonverbal component of our daily communication, such as the tonality of our voice, make up 38% and 55% from the speaker's body language and facial expressions.

But anyway, it isn't an easy job back behind that bench to be fair...but alot of energy good or bad can make a huge difference.

Ref, I think you have nailed it, but I would add that as a coach you need to be aware that your team is looking to you for reassurance, guidance and direction . I believe MS7 has a lot of work to do here, and as noted his public face is either non existent or so lacking in emotion that it is hard to get any energy or feeling from him.
I remember that was my first take away from his introductory remarks. No emotion no vision no sense that he must now be the one to lead the difference the past few years, less
than stellar results had produced.

We need to track a new stat and fill in the lines retroactively: DIHL = Deer In Headlights Look.

I will begin with 27 March 2010, 6-2 loss to RIT, NCAA East Regional FINAL, Albany, NY, Umile as HC, UNH tied 1-1 after first, down 4-1 after second, scoring one and giving up two (one ENG) in third. UNH took 6 min in penalties in third of 12 mins in game to RIT 6 total pen mins, but no PPG or SHG.

We have over six months to build this stat database on this aptly named thread.

This one sticks out to me from Umile's NRN quest... Up 4-0 after 2 against a brutal Brown team and get the doors blown off in the third to a 4-4 tie. Not a consequential game but this was the season that while Umile's name was on the team, had Souza's fingerprints all over it in terms of recruiting and was what I marked as the end of the possibilities in the NRN quest born from the Great Umile Transition Plan TM.

Ugh I remember that game. I have a pic of DU walking off the ice after being blown out by UML in the 2017 qtrs...Matias Cleland was right behind him...DU looking straight ahead expressionless but you could see how the game affected Matias...it was his last game as a Wildcat and he was the Capt that season (and a darn good one at that). I'd post it but can't figure out how to do that.

As stupid as it sounds I'm more disappointed than I usually am..just wanted to see one more game. And
had a glimmer of hope we would but ohhh welllll.

Love ya, 'Ref (and apologies to all in advance of sensitive content) ... but this is a little too close to "Planet Venus" for me. I totally understand, there can be subtleties on how you convey a message impacting on the clarity of the message itself. My guess is on "Planet Mars", the ratio is in reverse, with 55% assigned to the actual verbal communication, 38% to its tone/clarity, and the final 7% going to body language. MS7 is the Men's head coach, so let's not get his signals crossed on this, OK? ;-) He's got enough on his plate to figure out already, don'cha think?? Let's get him past HC101 first before we get into the conceptual stuff with him.

At this rate, he'll probably be ready for the advanced classes two extensions from now ...

Dude, I'm not sure any UNH fan is looking for your advice at this moment. Particularly when its bad advice.

So you are hoping unh fans keep expectations unreasonably high and are let down year after year?

fair enough

Have you ever noticed that UNH fans don't go to your page and dump on you? Well, if you wanna count
Chuck I mean..and he doesn't dump on you. Anyway...good luck this weekend. I think you're gonna need it but
maybe you get lucky. Better stay the H out of the box 'coz there are these players I think their names are
Celibrinni and Hutson that would love to put a few past ya. ;-)

Here comes the "at least we're in it" post...ha!

If we're being totally honest here, 'Ref ... it's not like MS7 (or his immediate predecessor) have given us all that many opportunities to lord it over the UMaine-iacs. I do remember (glowingly) there was like an (almost) 3 week period in 2002 after UNH beat UMaine for the HEA title in Boston. It was like heaven. Then, it all went pear-shaped when UMaine turned the tables convincingly (7-2) on UNH in St. Paul in the FF Semis.

But we'll always have those (almost) three weeks to look back upon ever so fondly ... blecccchhhhh ...

Nah, I dont begrudge the UNH folks (much, lol). Im just trying to figure out what their path to glory might look like. They have an uphill climb and theres no sense in kicking them in the shins on their climb. I remain befuddled to the max on this AD decision though. Seems totally stupefying to me. The DITH looks just doesnt cut it. But I do believe in what goes around evenutally comes around and theyll get there eventually. They are a passionate fanbase and will likely right the ship....as in dont be surprised too much if MS works something akin to a minor miracle next year if he has the talent and their goalie sticks around. But in addition, that unlikely possibility was no reason to extend MS imo. Hope wont get you very far in this very competitive league.

Yes that is correct. Clearly a goal but no stoppage until the next whistle. UNH fans and their bench going crazy. Long, long review as it so clearly went through the net but such an outlier that it was hard for the officially to admit it.
I believe I remember ecat and Snivley were in attendance and many others I’m sure. The Cornell fans just couldn’t rap their heads around it. Bobbies year for sure.

Yup, I was in Albany for both games in the 2010 East Regionals, and I thank you and wildcatfan_GoNH for reminding me how happy I was after we beat Cornell in the semi-final game. Butler, Sislo, and Thompson each scored two goals in that 6-2 win against a great goaltender in Ben Scrivens. That UNH team had six double-digit goal scorers: Butler-29, Thompson-19, Sislo-14, LeLanc-14, DeSimone-10, and Kessel-10. Our final record was only 18-14-7, yet we made the NCAA’s after getting bounced by UVM at the Whitt in the HEA quarters 2 of 3. Butler was a senior and scored 53 points, 1.36 points/game, was a +19, and scored on 17.9% of his SOG.

I should have not been surprised by the result the next night against RIT as the bad karma began when my vehicle got locked inside a parking garage near the arena after celebrating the win over Cornell at a downtown bar, which forced me to pay an exorbitant rate at a downtown hotel instead driving to a cheap flop house on the outskirts of Albany. Another roller coaster of a postseason weekend of so many for a Wildcat hockey fan.

We are 4-4–0 against Cornell since the Frozen Four years, with three of those four wins coming in the postseason. Trivia Questions: 1) who did RIT upset in their semifinal game in Albany, and 2) what other Atlantic Hockey team knocked us out of a NCAA regional and when?

Guessing (2) was Niagara circa 2001 IIRC, Snives? Another ouchie to the long-time UNH fan's psyche ...

Yup, close, Chuck. Niagara beat UNH 4-1 at Mariucci in the West Regional first round on 24 March 2000. I cannot find the box score at the moment.

UNH was also Umiliated the other two times that we have played Niagara. We lost 5-2 at the HSBC Arena on 25 October 2003 with Mike Ayers in net; Tim Horst and Steve Saviano scored our two PPG’s. I was there when we lost 6-2 at the Whitt on 30 December 2005 when Jeff Petrasiak and Kevin Regan each gave up three goals; Chris Murray and Michael Hutchins scored for UNH.

My guess is that UNH has an all-time losing record against cumulative Atlantic Hockey teams, which I need to tally some time when I am feeling really psychotic.

Lol Snively yep following this team does indeed cause one to develop psychotic tendencies!

Speaking of that will be at the Gahden tonight sitting in Club...don't plan on wearing UNH garb except my signature white hat so if any other UNH fans are around do say hi....or post here maybe we can commiserate over a 15.00 beer!

Not really "rooting" for anyone per se but good luck to you Maine fans...been since what 2012 ish since you've been there ? enjoy the moment! We UNH fans are living precariously through you...

Despite our (continued) absence always enjoy the hockey. I should take PP notes and send them to our newly extended HC heard he could use some assistance in that regard!

Question to the board in general: Now that UMaine has rediscovered the travel coordinates to the Garden, and Luce made his one and only appearance for the emerging dynasty (not) that was supposedly UConn two years ago ... is it safe to assume that UNH now is on the clock as the program that hasn't been to Boston for the HEA semis the longest? Or is UVM in the running there, too?

Even though they're no longer in the league, I'm wondering if NICC has a more recent appearance than UNH ...
