UNH Hockey 2023-2024 Season Thread - End Of The Cellar-Dweller Era??

Not showing up and undisciplined play are excuses and symptoms of the problem. This team, and more accurately this program, are not even close to contender level.

Some on other social media are saying MS7 has 'lost the room'. What do you think of that POV?

I’m not so sure of that. I don’t doubt these guys want to win, give it their all and play hard for their coach. They’re just outmatched most of the time.

Remember when we used to compete with BC & BU instead of looking like a club team against them. I hate them both. I know Maine is everyone else's main rival as UNH fans, but for me it's BU & BC. Dream of the day where we just beat the tar out of both on to a Natty one year. Just hope that dream eventually becomes a reality.

Yeah not sure the playing field is level > 3 billion BU and BC endowments..sorry but it's a reflection of money. Sure their will be years of under dog dominance as exemplified recently with PC and UMASS national championships but it not likely to be sustained as it was in past. The current landscape of college sports today with NIL and the portal greatly empower the cash rich institutions especially a BC who crushes it with that ACC $. If you think you are going back to the glory years it's highly unlikely. However a competitive team can still be fielded like Maine this year it just isn't as likely to happen year in and year out

Still 16th in PWR, but now 3 PWR points behind old fellow postseason wannabes Cornell and St Clown for 14th.

And just 1 point behid Luce’s Yukon for sixth in HEA but with 3 games in hand. Leapfrog Yukon, win MBPBEGAM game, and then travel to Orono once again for a chance to earn a trip to the Garden.

Thanks for this needed bit of hope! I don't think any of us really expected them to win (and from the way they played neither did they) so today is a new day...Come to play tonight 'Cats!

But yeah...onward.

'Ref, for the record, you were a late goalpost away from picking the final score on the nose. Kudos.

Total embarrassment. No show from the start, and BC pretty much put it in cruise control for the duration.

Even if he's a long-time BC coach these days, this had to be a tough watch for Coach Ayers tonight ...

Coach Ayers has had a front row seat over these past years so he's prob nonplussed tho he has to feel something about it.

They (BC) are going to go far this season going to be interesting..would not surprise me if they win the whole thing.

Lavins most likely out tonite and I wonder about Jensen? He came off it seemed like in alot of pain..shoulder
maybe??

Well the storm hit, and it wasn’t pretty. Tonight’s result clearly and painfully illustrates how far this team is from being an actual contender. The separation is a mile long chasm.

Looking at all of College Hockey not many contenders when facing BC or BU, they are stacked.

It get it Walrus, I just want them to compete, if you do that you can contend. Look at Maine, most likely won’t win it all this year, but it’s not a stretch by any means to call them a contender.

Gotta love the way the schedule worked out. The two teams that got waxed by the two schools with Boston in their name play each other tonight. Perfect. : ).

Exactly....thats all any of us want...seems there's just no compete..or consistently anyway..and it's pretty disappointing even when you have abit of talent.

If nothing changes nothing changes.

By no means was UNH waxed! The were shellacked! ;- ). But true, which team will fold tonight? I think the first to score will win the game going away. Which team I can’t tell, but I just missed with my 5-1 BC prediction for last night.

+1. We are on the fast track to DI being pay for play and the level below being somewhat reminiscent of college sports.

Agreed. I only watched parts last night, but they seemed to turn into the goon squad late which tells me they care.

The eye test has said for weeks that a PWR bid isn’t happening. A loss to #29 tonight guarantees it.

Yes, look at how many years Maine sucked before we got the right coach, never want to be the first following a legend.

”Cause Saturday night’s the night I like
Saturday night’s alright alright alright ooooooh
Well they’re packed pretty tight in here tonight [at Lawlooooorrrr]”

So, looks like Mahty more than doubled up his season penalty minutes going from 12 to 26 with the 10-minute major
last night. But does that mean he is in the stands tonight?
