UNH Hockey 2023-2024 Season Thread - End Of The Cellar-Dweller Era??

Looks like the MS7 renewal story broke the Internet. 3 year extension. The bar for performance has now been raised, and I for one will see to it that any slippage in performance AND effort is recorded here for posterity's sake.

Any idea if Souza will be making any guest appearances on NESN during upcoming B's games? Playoffs??

Vacation nyet ... staycation, oui monsieur!! There's recruiting and portal wooing to be done. Chop chop ...

Finally we can get in here!!

Welp at least all the rumors etc are confirmed. Not
surprised. So tired of the whole thing quite honestly.
Like you Chuck doesn't mean you have to like it.

Seasons tix were already renewed and we will see where this all goes. But for right now? I loved so many of our W's (who says winning isn't everything lol). Yes there was a turn around etc players should be proud of. Left us all wanting more.

Regardless it doesn't change the fact that it's just one more season we are on the outside looking into the all so elusive post season. Gotta decide who to root for this weekend and it won't be BC ha!

Time to keep an eye on who comes and goes...and as they say "to whom so much is given so much is expected" or something like that. You're on the clock MS7...time to earn this gift...get yourself out there and for all that is holy fix that PP in the off season ha!

Ps..just read the email from the U and his remarks. So glad he had the chance to play in a NC game. Question is..will he ever coach in one? He said they would when he was hired...am holding him to it (but not my breath)

3 year extension? I guess I, for one, am speechless. Not my team, but I never would have expected that. Guess you will find out for sure next year if this one was a mirage or not. I figured 1 year, two year max.

Congratulations, that is one less worry. At least now there is no limbo. You can rest, assured.

I knew when the forum crashed that something was up. ARE YOU KIDDING 3 year extension. I want to puke. This is not who we are! We used to be a program that never settled for missing going to the garden, or the NCAA tournament. EVER! Now we just sit back and take it year after year like we somehow are this little program. For pete sakes, Merrimack, Providence, and Umass have all done massively better than us in the last decade and its ACCEPTED. I'm not sure how a coach who's only had ONE winning season in 6 years, can't coach up players in big games... SUCKS on the road deserves any extension. Allison Rich (Frugal) had a golden opportunity to restore the men's hockey program, but didn't. THIS IS A HOCKEY SCHOOL!! Only thing I can hope for is if he actually brings the program back to life and takes the next step or sucks and gets fired before his contract ends. What a disappointment.

Our AD at the end of the day decided to go with what’s safe instead of taking a risk and if I’m a fan I should be upset.

Read the email from the U the last big paragraph spells out the reason she had to be thinking about most...the renovations and getting that project funded.

Not making the Garden or how many road losses or how lousy the PP is. And other factors like how MS7 is the quintessential UNH guy through and through. (not saying that's a bad thing)

Oh and most importantly? Over 104K people went to games and that's the bottom line. It always is and that's that.

I'm honestly struggling with that one, 'Ref. TDL surfaced with his proposed funding/gifting of the renovation project(s) months ago. If MS7 was non-renewed, are we to believe that TDL/Key Auto Group would have withdrawn the funding, despite all of the positive PR he and his organization have reaped from the video pimping of the project any time UNH Hockey has been on TV the last 3 months?? I mean, talk about heavy-handed, creating negative PR, etc. He has a really big project pending lots of City approvals eventually at the McIntyre site in downtown Portsmouth. The LAST thing TDL wants or needs is bad publicity, and he'd get a boatload of that if he withdrew funding from UNH on a whim over the status of his BFF(?). He's got bigger fish to fry. Rich should know that.

Maybe we can make March 19th an annual holiday up here ... Mediocrity Day. Do mediocre work, only pick up the pace when your professional future is on the line, and then go back into cruise control, "What me, worry?" 5-0 postseason losses, etc. I mean, how many of us, if we did our jobs as well as MS7 does his, would still have our job? A: Not many.

I'd love to get the details behind the scenes ... but my sense is AD Rich wobbled when it mattered, and crumbled into giving the three years. Indefensible, and I'm hoping we don't hear the usual litany of excuses from the U if MS7's "resurrection" of the UNH program doesn't pan out, starting with this season, and won't waste further time farting around with mediocrity. If I EVER hear the U doesn't have the money to buy MS7 out (if appropriate) in the future, then I'm going to suggest that maybe they go groveling (again) to TDL for some additional funds for the "golden handshake". While I'm thinking of it ... maybe the U should just skip the formalities, and appoint TDL as the new AD, and Rich can be his secretary, IF any of this is true?

To those whom much is given, much will absolutely be expected. I'll be waiting for those NESN appearances now, chop chop ...

Chuck, yeah it would be foolish to pull out and I highly doubt (hope not) there weren't any threats to do so, but you know as well as I do that this project
had to be a big part of her decision making. Sure she can put out publicly what an 'amazing season' blah blah blah but at the end of the day? It was also about
revenues generated this past season, and next...as I suspect many 'doubters' will give it another try to see what happens.
