UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Are you going Chris? This is a series I wanted to fly into. Alexis has a softball tournament this weekend instead.

Is this a trick question? Yes. Still in Omaha. My brother and cousin will be joining the kids and me for the series. Of course, Alex & Cateyln are UNO fans, whick has created some trash talkin' in the household. I've been looking forward to the series for a year. Go Sioux!

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Let me see if I understand the format for posting as a UND fan on this thread:

1) Allude to UNO's relative youth in college hockey, and suggest that neither its players nor its fans know anything about winning or losing;

2) Make some fairly lame mascot-related remark; and

3) Predict, without any reference to actual hockey, that UND will sweep the series.

As in:

"UNO doesn't understand the playoffs don't happen at Thanksgiving. Cow flatulence is a leading cause of the greenhouse effect. Sioux sweep."

Aside from Dirty, you need some work.

You must have missed my posts. Nice work.

I still say a split. UNO is too tough at home to say UND sweep at this point.
If UND comes out of Omaha with 2 or more points, I'm a happy camper.

UND should take 3 points or more this weekend. For three reasons:

1- UND has the best team in the WCHA.
2- UND has had the tougher schedule and more prepared to play a tough series.
3- UND's recent domination of Wisconsin (UND outshot UW 98-32).

Sad that the best team in the WCHA got swept by Maine... This is going to be a great series to watch with a lot of offense. I don't think either team has played a team like their opponents tonight. I wish I could be there to watch it

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Should be a great series. It is always interesting to see how UND will react to a team that is as physical as they are. I don't know much about UNO, watched them play the goophers on TV, but it would be hard to imagine a Blais coached team being soft.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Let's go SIOUX! Go take care of business! Let's show UNO what UM, SCSU, Mankato couldn't do and welcome them to the WCHA!!!

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Are these games on TV anywhere? Sports channels, internet, whatever.

Not televised. You can get to the webcast through the Mav website. Shocking right? Here I was thinking they didn't know what the internet was down in Nebrasker.

Interesting read from Jayson on the MHKY media blog (what kind of show you guys running down there???):
Yesterday when we checked in, our room was about 110 degrees despite the thermostat showing 67. I was told by the front desk that the hotel has turned on the heat for the winter -- because, you know, it's 50 degrees in Omaha -- so the only option for cool air is to turn off the fan altogether or request a plug-in fan from maintenance. Air conditioning is not an option.

This morning, there was not a drop of hot water to be found in the shower.

So, to recap: Room temperature = hot only, water = cold only.

On the positive side, we were given a complementary cookie when we checked in. And the bacon was quite delightful at breakfast.

I'd describe today's morning skate as loose, yet business-like. I did hear some commenting that the Qwest Center ice is somewhat bumpy. This made long passes along the ice difficult at times. Might be something to watch tonight, particularly in the transition game.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

You picked a terrible hotel. Go on Yelp next time. That is the oldest hotel downtown, and it's in desperate need of a remodel.

As for the ice, it's always awful. The authority that runs the Qwest Center has a palpable distaste for hockey. It's one of the many, many reasons we need our own rink, and Blaiser is going to help us get it done.

I excuse neither of these things, neither does any sensible UNO fan.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Well that was fun. UND decides to play lazy defense frequently and Eidsness plays poorly again, yet they still find a way to win. Blah.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Back and forth game. Pretty crazy.
Great win for the Sioux in a very tough environment.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

1) Yes the ice was and usually is bumpy except for long home stands.
2) Get your money back from that crappy hotel.
3) That was one of the best games I've watched @ the Quest.
4) The free cow bells were lame, no ball inside to make noise, only a wire hook with nothing on it. I wonder if that had anything to do with the Quest people trying to keep bells from coming in earlier in the year. I'm going to fix mine with a fish weight.
5) Even though the NoDak team I saw tonight looked far superior than any michigan team I've seen in the last 12 years UNO proved without a doubt they can compete with anyone.
6) It's obvious who had a huge influence on Hak's coaching style.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

It was a great game. It was simply epic.

No moral victory here, no glad to be here. Wish my guys could have won, and they could have.

But this is why I love college hockey. This baby was a prize fight.

Also, Sioux fans were classy and represented.

We like this league.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Terry Leahy commented on how a difference in geography makes in ticket sales. I'd gladly take 2000 UND fans over a bunch of idiots throwing UNO cards around. Tomorrow night I'm bringing my genuine cow bell.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

I was able to listen to about half of it on the radio, must've been a wild game. Sounded like UNO got a little bit of the short end on penalties, but I wasn't there to see if it was justified or not. Eidsness is too inconsistent to be starting for us. (to his credit, he doesn't see the same amount of shots as most other netminders), but still.. Dell has been solid as of late. Hopefully one of them can emerge.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

The fan's opinion on reffing is not worth a great deal.

I will say that the refs were CONSTANTLY in the way of play. The game came at them way too fast. That didn't usually happen in the C, but then games weren't played at that speed in the C, either.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Extraordinary hockey game tonight. It was a proud night to be a Mav fan, and I am proud to work for TD Ameritrade. We had an awful lot of people there and I'm happy they saw a great game.

UNO was the better team for the first 16 minutes tonight, and then UND was the better team for the rest of the game. I thought most of the penalties on UNO were justified, but even on a UNO powerplay, UND was much better. UNO was better at even strength than on either man advantage.

UNO had a couple of chances to make it a 2 goal game early in the third that would have made a big difference. I thought UND did a great job of getting into passing lanes.

I echo Rick's sentiments that I talked to many a UND fan both at the arena, and at other places, and it was a pleasure to make their acquaintance.

I am 100% confident UNO will play better tonight, my concern is that UND will as well.

Go Mavs!

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

 I'm still peeved that I was on a flight between Chicago and Omaha during the Friday game.....

Sounds like an instant classic game at the Qwest. I believe the Mav's will come back strong tonight. I'm hoping to see an even more determined attack and focus on team D.

Go Mav's!

P.S. for all out there, the crowd last night was the second largest in Mav history with more than 11,000 coming out. Improved coverage from the Omaha Paper and a full page picture in the sports section (I mention this because getting even a 1/4 page photo during the college football season is a *** victory).

P.S.S. Bonus points to the paper for getting your teams name correct!
