UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Dean Blais is going to look really good behind the Gophers bench next year....UNO fans, enjoy it while you can.;)

I guess you didn't see the article where Blais said he was going to coach for 5 years and then retire, this is year two of the five year time frame.
Blais said that Simonson and Turgeon are both injured.

Blais again said he plans to coach at Omaha for five years. Then, he said he wants to retire and spend more time with his grandchildren.

“I pretty much have had the best college job in the country already,” he said. [Read the rest of the article]

Draw Four!!

These are great, they really are. They're the same jokes that CCHA teams stopped making in roughly February of 2000, but hey, they're new to you.

Seriously: UND is a very, very good hockey team - probably among the best in the country. UNO needs this challenge now, and I think will compete well. Beyond that, no predictions.

UNO will play well, I have no doubts about that. I think a split is the most likely outcome, but I wouldn't be surprised by any outcome.

wow...and I guess you've never paid attention when time after time coaches say they aren't going anywhere and a week later they sign with a new team....that's how college athletics work....it's all about money too; and between salary and hockey camps the Sota job has more to offer. Dean can say whatever he wants, but it doesn't mean jack.....for all we know he is using this as leverage.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Yeah, you're right, he'll probably leave UNO so he can go and put up with all the BS and hassle that Lucia deals with; prima donna players, fans that expect nothing less than a blow out every night, a national championship every April, and who could all do a better job coaching the team. Where as in Omaha, he's got the job as long as he wants it, with players who work hard and are on the verge of becoming a consistent noisemaker at the upper levels of D1, a fanbase that appreciates a good hard game and don't call for the coach's head everytime they lose.

But you're probably right, I'd rather leave a good, cake job for the pressure cooker that is the UM at the end of my coaching career too.

Aw heck, if you get them to the second game of the NCAAs you'd be a hero at UM.

I recall an article where Blais mentioned he that he was living in an apartment but now considers Omaha his home and planned to permanantly relocate by buying a house in Omaha where he plans to retire. Sounds like he likes Omaha a lot and is 100% committed to Omaha and to UNO hockey.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

My belief is that this is one of the, if not the match up of the season thus far (Surprise, deserved or otherwise). UNO will be fired up and the Qwest should be loud and exciting. It's a great weekend for Hockey Boys!!!

Go Mavs!

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Throw out the rankings. At this point in the season, rankings mean about as much as an Obama tax cut. In other words, squat.

Sure, UNO is off to a great start. But I don't think they've seen anything (with the possible exception of the Weasels) resembling the Sioux yet.

Special teams and goaltending are going to decide this series. UNO has shown a tendency to find the penalty box, and they need to stay out.

I, for one, am looking forward to a great series regardless of the outcome. Should be very, very entertaining.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

The real question is, will the student become the teacher or will the teacher show the student he is still the bomb? Anyway should be some great hockey this weekend. And GO SIOUX!!!

If you had a couple national championships under your belt would you be satisfied with anything less? Of course not, so quit acting like your fanbase is a bunch of little angels. Hopefully we send you a nice 'welcome' to the WCHA this weekend like we did to Bemidji earlier in the season. I'm not saying you don't have a good team, obviously you've shown you are capable.. but don't be shocked if we make you look like a bunch of pansies. :)

A fantastic place to live.

Poor guy. :D

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Rick has it right - Competitive yes, outcome, who knows.

Talent edge - Sioux without a doubt

Intangibles - I think edge to the Mavs

Watched a little of the UND-Maine game earlier this season and Sioux are really talented bunch.

Will be great fun and welcome to our green and white friends from the North. Enjoy Omaha and leave lots of cash behind :)

You're not referring to the cowbells, are you? :)

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Seems to me that UNO is having the season start that the Gophers usually have (for UNO fans: that is not a compliment).

The cowbells give their program a strong similarity with UAA (a bit of an insult, actually).

Dude, I like their style, though. Sioux sweep anyway. This matchup seems made for Kristo's speed and skills, and he breaks out for a five point weekend.

As a opposed to starting the season off with horrible starts and losing national championships and WCHA championships?

It depends on the team but more importantly it is a long season with many ups and downs which UNO is about to find out.
