UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Awwwww. Did someone ****** in your Cheerios?

To the Sioux fans that I had the pleasure of talking with last night, thanks for coming out to support your team. What a fun weekend of hockey.

There was some beer in my cheerios. :D

P.S. I took a screenshot that pretty clearly shows he was offsides, i'll post it up when I get around to it.

It was a blown call, they scored.. tough pill to swallow when you lose a game like that, but hey that's the nature of the game. Nobody is perfect.

There were missed calls both nights that affected both teams and on Friday night North Dakota came out on the positive end of them with two of their six goals being scored when the puck was covered but the whistle wasn't blown and another of their goals being scored on the PP after a ticky-tack penalty on UNO.

It happens.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Congrats to UNO and their fans.

I'm a BC fan living in New York and visiting Boston for the Maine series. One of these times I'll have to tie in a UNO game with a KC Chiefs visit the same weekend.

Got to ask--is the media still ignoring the Mavs out there? I had to search real hard on the Omaha World Record web site for a game story. It seems as though the U. of Nebraska obsession still holds. I remember one UNO fan once telling me: "We could sweep at Michigan State and all we'd read about is the latest Cornhusker football player arrested."

Coverage is getting better but won't improve much until college football is over. The World Herald is getting way better while the tv stations are soso. Channel 6 used to be plastered all over the instant replays on the video boards but they've been replaced by valpac.com which might have something to do with the fact that their coverage sucks now.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

So... Saturday morning around 3:30 a.m. I left Minneapolis to meet my friends in Moorhead to drive to Omaha. We go to the game. I feel bad that I didn't get to meet any of the nice UNO fans as it sounds like there are lots of them. Unfortunately the ones by us were jerks and badmouthed every one of our players whenever they had the puck and called us divers and whined whenever any of our players would even talk to an official. (I realized UNO hasn't played Denver yet, so I let that one slide). Anyways, whether the guy was off sides or not is kind of a moot point ... if UND had capitalized on any of the power plays or chances, it wouldn't have came down to the last second of the game. I guess I'm just mad that I only got 2.5 hours of sleep to go to the game, but that's the price you pay for being a diehard, bleed sioux green hockey fan. Hope I get to meet some of the nicer UNO fans at the Final Five or something!

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

OK, diehard hockey fans, was there a face-off after the goal? Keep in mind, there was (or should have been) .3 seconds left on the clock.

No there wasn't a faceoff...that didn't hit me until today that there wasn't. No one was going to score a goal from center ice with .3 seconds left but technically there probably should have been a faceoff.

The Ferris - WMU game had a face-off (after Ferris scored with .1 seconds left in the second period). The teams came out after the second intermission and the refs had the teams line up as if the second period was still on. The puck 'dropped' the whistle blew, the teams switched sides, the clock was reset to 20 minutes and the puck was dropped again, all within a few seconds of the teams coming back on the ice.

Worthless, yes, accurate yes.

I think the decision to not do a faceoff was in part due to that the entire team was out on the ice and it would have been a hell of a time getting everyone back to the bench for a faceoff.

I know it would have been accurate but ... I'm not going to complain.

Puck is in the top circle, on the edge of the blue line. Forwards' back skates are circled for your reference.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

Unfortunately your picture is after the first one. The ref had a pretty good view of it since he had to JUMP over the puck. The goal was reviewed at the game and it was fair. you can't go off sides AFTER you have already crossed the blue line...

I'm not sure you understand what they reviewed. The review was to insure that the time had not expired and had NOTHING to do with the offside or not as that wouldn't be reviewable. Second, him having to jump to avoid contact would make it more difficult in all likelyhood to see whether it was offsides or not and not enhance his ability to do so. It really doesn't matter as it was very close and they made the call they did and the game is over.

BTW the screen shots posted by MavRick do not show the puck in the zone so yes the later screen shot of the puck still not in the zone with the puck handler in the zone is relevent.

The crowd from North Dakota was great. So much so,that I am po'd that UNO didn't get them here for the Stampede sooner, we should have been playing UND every year.

If the ticket situation was better, I would head up to Grand Forks in Jan.

Looks to me like the puck is 6 inches over the line, ahead of Ambroz's stick and Ambroz's back skate is on it.

Re: UND vs. UNO Let it begin!

In mine it looks like both skates are in and the puck (with his stick) is on the blue.

Let's assume you're right, that in your photo, the puck is on Ambroz's stick, in which case, Rule 6-38-a applies:

A player in full control of the puck who crosses the blue line ahead of the puck shall not be considered offside.

Or are you going to argue a puck on the tape with no defender within six feet is not in Ambroz's control?

It depends. Did he have control before crossing the line, or did he cross the line and then get control? The former is a legal play, the latter is offsides. A still photo doesn't show either way (not to mention most photos/videos are blocked here at work, so I can't see it anyway).

Edit: And since you'll undoubtedly ask: look at Approved Ruling 1 for the Offsides Rule in the back of the rulebook.
As long as A1, when receiving the pass, has possession and control of the puck and at least one skate is in contact with the neutral zone, A1 legally can precede the puck into the attacking zone while completely crossing the blue line.
Emphasis added.

The reason he was reaching back was because he did not have full control of the puck, if he did it would have been in front of him. Players put themselves off-sides all the time like this and it is usually a easy call.... I don't know if the refs let it go because of the time left or if he was too busy hopping over the puck to see clearly but that same thing gets called most of the time. That being said, the Sioux had control of most of that game with the exception of a couple of defensive breakdowns, including the last play, and should have scored some goals. They have no one but themselves to blame as I thought the reffing was quite good this weekend overall. I am happy with the split, UNO seems to be the real deal. Fans were very nice to my group all weekend..... I just wish the UNO mens hockey team wouldn't have showed up at Roja's after the game on Saturday while I was trying to nurse my wounds with fish tacos and a margarita.....

I understand why it was reviewed, I was there. Perhaps I didn't make it clear. The play was not off sides.
