UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

For those of you planning to attend the banquet, I received word from the Hockey Office today that it's being moved to May 7th at 7PM, still at the Inn and Conference Center.
Thanks for this.

If anyone would like to help with the cost of the award, it'd be appreciated... :o

take that with a grain of salt, for a while Albany was very close to a deal with Portland, and then that fell through.

the devils are gone next season. albany, portland or dubai, they sure as hell aren't going to be in lowell unless there's some sort of catastrophe where lowell is the only remaining city with an AHL-sized rink

Good, UML can repaint the blue lines to NCAA spec then! ;)

The new Jersey Devils back in Albany makes sense. Plus Buffalo just signed an extension with Portland. Word on the street is that the kings might end up staying manchester.

Itll be great to see a Riverhawk right in the center of the ice and not shared with a devil!

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

I'm kind of torn on this...

On one hand, the Devils leaving will probably have a positive effect on UML hockey. Families that once only went to Devils games might not take notice of the River Hawks and that'll probably boost attendance somewhat. Regardless of whether the Devils leave or not, UML will have full pick on practice/game times.

One the other hand I like AHL hockey and when the River Hawks are in the off-season or I just feel like getting a fix of hockey, Lowell Devils games are alright to go to. Seeing Ben Walter play again this season has been a treat, he's their leading scorer right now. I think the ticket prices are a little higher than they should be, but it's decent hockey. Especially with so many of this year's seniors heading up the AHL, it gives you a chance to still see some of these players.

A team leaving is kind of a poor reflection on the city and even though the crowds were often on the lighter side, it'll have an effect on the businesses nearby. Hopefully Marty is able to get something in there to fill the 40+ nights left behind if they do leave. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Found this after I posted...

Yet according to Tom Gulitti, the Devils beat writer for The Record (Bergen N.J.), the Devils first choice is for their AHL team to remain in Lowell.

“We are talking to Albany and have some other options, but our focus is to stay in Lowell,” Lamoriello told North Jersey.com. One other option would be moving the AHL franchise to New Jersey, but this would be unlikely for next season.

Might not be much stock in that, but let's see...

Ben Holmstrom got in his first fight the other night, against former BC and Dartmouth d-man Ben Lovejoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGQ6H1LsOPs

According to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Nick Schaus is expected to make his pro debut either tonight in Providence or tomorrow night in Lowell.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

I was watching nhl live and they were talking about the flyers goaltending problems. so they started talking about all the goalies the flyers called up and they briefly mentioned carter hutton's name. So I sent a tweet to the show and they read the tweet. I wrote in the explaining that Carter played at UML and that he was on a ATO with the phantoms. Also that he was called up only on an emergency basis for the one game. the funny thing was they didn't know what an ATO was.
