UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Sorry to pass along the bad news, but things aren't looking good for Melchiori showing up in Lowell. OHL is putting on the full court press:

No problem. Patman said so!

Seriously, that article is ridiculous and the writer should die of gonorrhea.

What will the River Hawks, with former NHL player Shawn McEachern is an assistant coach, do to protect their prized incoming freshman from the OHL birds of prey?

“Everything we can,” MacDonald said.

Which seems to be almost nothing. Not even College Hockey Inc.’s Paul Kelly, the former NHL player’s union boss, would offer up a plan of defence from Rangers recruitment assault on Melchiori.

“I have never talked to the player or college coach and don't understand the circumstances, so it wouldn't be appropriate for me to comment publicly." Kelly said.

Why would college hockey inc have a comment on this one kid? Freakin stupid.

Apparently I misjudged the value of a 5th round conditional pick in 2013. I was under the impression that a lot of these guys have their rights traded around in maneuvering games. We saw the rights to Visca get swapped around a little while ago.

We'll see what happens.

This really sucks if Lowell loses him to the OHL. i hope he picks UML. I hope that Blaise knows what he is doing with this issue. But I think Pat is right about this issue.

Eh... I wouldn't necessarily bet on it... I'm not sure which one Carmine is but I know one of the pinheads is seriously wired in to the hockey world... i think.

Again, we'll see.

No inside info...

It's not about a guy's rights just getting traded. It's when these trades involve people that are connected to each other. Ya know... a kid gets traded to a team that is coached by his dad or his dad is the GM of the organization or what not... Stuff like that.

In this case, his cousin is a scout with Kitchener, so obviously he has a good idea if he persuaded his organization to trade for Melchiori that the kid is highly likely to bolt for Kitchener.

The minute you see something like that, the red flag goes up.

Who knows what will happen. I would say it doesn't look good for UML. But we'll see. As a CH fan, I never want to see a kid leave here to go north of the border and give up the education. Especially after knowing that dickbag writers up in Canada barf all over their keyboard and produce articles like the one that was linked above.

Bye bye Melchiori. That's too bad. He would have been fun to watch but there's too much going against Lowell for the Riverhawks to keep this kid now.

That article was horrible by the way. Sounds like the writer is a high school kid.

Time will tell, hopefully things are not as bad as the article suggests.

I agree with all of this.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

i like the idea of the basketball doubleheader.............i know it's in lowell but if they could subtract lowell high and put central catholic in to face andover, you'd have an even bigger gate

I think the emphasis is on filling dates... I don't like that he's still open to AHL hockey but beyond that I think its good to get as many events into the building to get a buzz going on. I can't imagine a UML basketball game would be a big draw (if it is, then great)... but I think if they could draw, say, the America East tournament to Lowell that'd probably get people in the building.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Former River Hawk Ben Walter signs with Colorado.
The Colorado Avalanche signed former UMass Lowell standout and free agent forward Ben Walter to a one-year deal. Walter, who has played in 24 career NHL games with the Devils, Bruins and Islanders, led New Jersey's AHL affiliate with 58 points last season.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

I wonder how that one extra year might have helped...

eh, its not like Blaise has been working miracles nor has he been lost on the AHL depth charts. I think it would have been great for us had he stayed. Lets try to keep this last decade in the past... 2002, 2006, 2010... what could have been.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

It would suck for HE and of course far worse for UML if Melchori goes to Kitchner.

Unless there is a true difference in the skill development process via MJ I just don't see the benefit on any level of going the MJ route. go to school free, live it up with the educated women climbing all over you, and if you're good your pro career is going to be there no matter which path you take. But the one SURE thing is that your career will end in your 30's or by 40 (Mark Recchi is a rare exception) and you're going to want to do something with your life from there on and the college degree is going to pay off for SURE.

So I hope he defies what sounds like rather intense extended family pressure to join Kitchner.

The only College people hoping he goes to Kitchner are at PC where they are secretely hoping that some high schools joins HE before the season starts. Without this kid UML will just suffer all the more this coming season.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

I asked scott kaplan about him leaving and he told me that Bob Ellis said it is not going happen.
