Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Going through the IIHF boxscores I noticed that Laurent Meunier is now the captain of Team France and that Baptiste Amar is an assistant captain.

They will play the US in the relegation round next week.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

so the U just posted a video on facebook of the improvement they're going to make at the tsongas center over the summer and boy is it a whopper.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spYe2DYAfyY

it's called the "pavillion" and from what i could see, the lowell devils offices will be turned into a restaurant/bar that opens into the rink itself either in the middle of section G or between F and G. there will also be another restaurant/bar/lounge, completely walled off, on what is currently the concourse above those sections and (i think) over into E. it also has a small overhanging balcony with a couple rows of seats.

conclusions i have taken from this: 1. this is the new talon club, and the student sections will switch to the other end of the building, 2. it will be a considerably larger pain in the *** to get out of the rink after games, 3. marty meehan sleeps on giant piles of money, 4. there was no scoreboard of any kind in the video but i'm going to keep assuming there's going to be a videoboard.

also the music on the video was from E.T. so that was pretty cool.

e: i am terribly apologetic for the double post even if they were three days apart.

More to the point is this would be the kind of thing you would want to use for other classier events. Makes you wonder what they'll do with the current club room space?

I know there was some talk about utilizing the upper level on the far end of the rink. Anybody know if there's still plans to do something with that?

If the students are being put on the far end does that mean there's going to be some re-arranging of the benches? The original purpose of moving the students was to get them over the opposing keeper.

edit: what's the island thing on the far end of the rink on the concourse?

Thanks for posting UMLGoon. Looks great, I can't wait to see the finished product. I figured a new scoreboard would be the only changes we would see over the summer.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

I like that a lot. Hopefully there will be a video board, too. Can't wait to see it all in person next season.

I think they will just move some of the students into section I below the band. All they would have lost is Section G. Students are below the band at B.U. and B.C. so it shouldn't be much of a problem. I think it also takes the element of surprise from some unsuspecting family groups they might have put in Section I with the loud music over their heads.

I don't see how it would cause problems to exit the arena. You just wouldn't be able to travel between sections E and H. Why anyone would want to do that when exiting the arena as it currently stands except to leave the arena themselves. The people seated in those sections in the future would probably be able to go through either bar area to the outside.

It's my understanding, and plans could have been changed, but the new video board will be similar to the one at the TD Garden, only on a much smaller scale.

I think the new additions will be a great source of revenue for the University. They will have their VIP area that will be able to be used for all events. The club rooms are usually not used for concerts because there is no way to watch from that location. It will be interesting to see what else is on the drawing board.

I think the changes are excellent.

As I'm in Section B it has been a pain to get over to the smoking area (I know smoking is bad) between periods as getting through sections E-I was a nightmare with the auction tables and other stuff set up over there. No movement at all.

Lets hope they move the ATM to the other side of Section M and put another ATM in the lobby.

A real scoreboard would be cool as well :D

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

they just added more photos/details of the changes on facebook (if you follow them that is).

  • i was right: student section moved to sections Q, R, S and T. pep band also in T.
  • the pavilion seats are already sold out for the 2010-11 season.
  • the restaurant downstairs at the lobby level is indeed the talon club and they get their own entrance to the games (as i said before, through section G)
  • there's also a "board room" up on the fourth floor for corporate rentals. basically it's a luxury box not unlike what they have at the Garden.
  • that "island" pat mentioned behind the student section is a permanent athletic hall of fame.
  • they posted a concept picture of the new scoreboard. as pressbox said, it's exactly like the one at the Garden, except 15 feet instead of whatever the Garden's is (30 i think?)

it all looks pretty awesome

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

As a student of Lowell I am really excited to see huge changes. The only thing I am mad about is moving the student section. How can you not want your students watching the riverhawks shoot twice? Game winning goal by Scott Campbell and you got all the students on the other side of the ice going nuts. Thats bogus. I might just buy season tickets so I can sit blue line where they shoot twice.

1) $$$
2) i wouldn't worry about seeing too many GWGs this coming season
3) $$$

I agree that's dumb. I would definitely be ticked if I were a UML fan. I'm fairly certain every other arena in Hockey East (except PC cuz they don't have a student section) has its main student section in the end the home team shoots twice- if not behind the net, then on the side in that end.

I know its all about money. 500 for the pavilion club then 350 for talon. I think its just really dumb to move it to the other side. Honestly though, students at Lowell really won't notice the difference. Half of them don't know whats going on. You'll be seeing me in section C next year.

Yeah... and you don't want the more affluent being caught off guard by the students cheering... even the in-bounds stuff rankles some morons (like the guy who got ****ed at Tony against Vermont back when everybody is in Section N).

I would be careful in all this... this is probably about the time when the administration starts turning on the fans for the advantage of the old and the polite as has been seen at Michigan State amongst others.

Re: UML offseason looking towards 2010/11 season

Section X- Looks at the bench and down their runway. I like it.:D

I agree that putting the nambypamby folks behind the opposing goalie is weak. Half those people never even watch the game or go to their seats. It will leave a lovely little vacuum of silence/indifference behind the person we would like to rattle the most.:(
