Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Was there a good Lowell crowd at the game on Saturday night? I wound up listening to the UNH feed because the Lowell one doesn't seem to want to work for me, but everytime Lowell scored, I could hear a loud cheer.

I remember the early days of the Tsongas when Lowell would play UNH. Whenever either team scored a goal, there was a loud cheer. However, if you were on the concourse at either the concession stand or in the bathrooms, you could never assume who scored because the cheers were just as loud for one team as they were for the other.

I commented on that this weekend. UNH scored and it was no where as loud as it was when we did. The players were jacked it was so loud. The last few minutes were deafening :D It is awesome to see the crowd stay to cheer after- esp the students.

Pet peeve-The band lady is clueless! Someone needs to clue her in! She should have figured it out on her own but years later still no go. WHen we start a chant she cues up the band to drown them out. WteeF? Aggravates the you know what outta me. You play to drown out the other team's fans dummy!! The guy is awesome at that. Every yr until he starts directing I want a blow-dart with some paralyzing agent to peg her when she does it. I whine so much Lil will say"here she goes again!" and laugh.

UMLGoon- I can't believe you neg repped me

Simplified- Being ranked is good. I don't think it is a sign of disrespect to us as much as an over-respect for everything BU. BU is getting ranked because they are BU not because they are better than us. Same thing with BC and UNH. They get votes before anyone even sees what they are doing.

BU is ranked higher because BU started out the season higher than Lowell. Way higher. #2 in the country, to be exact. And they've dropped. But they've also beaten higher ranked teams. That usually helps, too.

All moot points considering Lowell absolutely annihilated BU in their only meeting this season.

Excellent point.

She's not very perceptive. Against UNH, during I believe the timeout in the third, the students started to get a good chant going and she just bowled them over. Someone should talk to her. It's hard enough getting a good chant going with the announcer chiming in every stoppage, the students shouldn't have to battle the pep band twenty feet from them.

Good for Wallin, kid's a hell of a player.

There must be some kind of "one team per award week/month" rule. First they snub Wilson as Rookie of the Month (despite his winning the weekly award twice), and now Carr got left off defensive PoTW. Criminal, especially considering they handed out two of those this time around. Kid was magic this weekend.

Not moot at all, in fact annihilating BU is one of many reasons Lowell is at #18 and not still on the outside looking in. How about you beat a few more top 5 ranked teams and then start you Rodney Dangerfield act.

I also hate when the band starts up and then the canned music starts and drowns them out. Let the band play.

Agreed! Rather have the band any day. They are good, she just has timing that is horrendous.

Yes, that and the 9-4 record probably have something to do with it.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Nobody saw this level of success coming. For me, I'm just fortunate that we are no longer the laughing stocks of Hockey East after one of the worst years in Lowell history. Let's be blunt, Lowell needed a very quick turnaround for reasons that has been amply discussed with the replacement of Blaise. So far, we have received it. We already are two points ahead of where we were at the end of last season and at worst after this weekend's game will have averaged somewhere between 1.09-1.45 points per HE game  More importantly, nine of these eleven games were against the traditional "Big Four".

We have an enormous opportunity afforded to us this weekend. Taking two or more out of the four points this weekend in my mind would put us firmly in the driver's seat for the playoffs and be in the hunt for home ice. That's where the focus should be placed; the score (no pun intended) will be settled with the Terriers on February 17/18th as we all know the BU boys will have those games circled on their schedules. UNH waxed the floor with us in the first game, but look what we did in the other two. That 5-0 game won't mean much more than a wooden penny if Lowell and UNH are tied on March 6th or whenever the regular season ends. The same can be said for the 7-1 game if BU does the same thing to us.

The catch is that we are still in the "so far" range. Would I love to see Lowell win Hockey East, of course, but I'm not ready to drink that Kool-Aid™
until we reach this time in February. I'm so happy that national media in college hockey is back on the Lowell bandwagon and gives us the exposure this school desperately needs. Before one wins HE, one has to clinch a playoff spot, then home-ice. Let's complete these object lessons of the season first before looking at the grand prize. The magic number for a playoff spot is 27 ;) so we have a few weeks.

Unfortunately, I'm going to be on a plane back from a business trip on Friday so I will not be able to make the game, though I have found a good home for my ticket. I do hope we see a repeat performance of 6000+ in the stands this time not requiring the presence of hockey's Holy Grail and more for the River Hawks dramatic turnaround during the course of a still relatively young season.

Vast wide league conspiracy. Fact.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Were all of you too young to cheer "Hockey East is Fixed!!!"? If you start with that premise you should be fine.

Been going for the past decade and then some. It's evolved from Hockey East is fixed to a vast wide league conspiracy.

I used to (and still do) love that chant. :)

For what it's worth, while Carr did play very well this weekend, when I saw the results from other games I knew he had no chance. Not in the least bit surprising that any team that sweeps the #1 team in the country while giving up just 2 goals in the 2 games ... yep, he belongs. And considering that Rawlings only gave up 3 at the #2 team in the country in two games ... it's understandable.

The Wilson not winning Rookie of the Month makes a lot less sense than this one does.
