Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Sigh... Oh Hockey East. Bringing your A game on a daily basis.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I swear the Hockey East website is run by 4th graders or hampsters.
That was corrected thankfully.

Carr and Wetmore made the top performers list as well.

Also from the press release:
UMass-Lowell: The River Hawks swept the Black Bears in Orono, ME for the second time in program history. The last time it happened was Feb. 8-9, 1985. It was also the program's first four-point Hockey East weekend since Jan. 22-23, 2010. UMass Lowell is now 5-3-0 on the year, matching its win total from a season ago. The River Hawks recorded last season's fifth victory on Feb. 26, 2011. UMass Lowell has scored four or more goals in five of its first eight games after reaching that figure just seven times in 2010-11. Reigning HE Rookie of the Week Scott Wilson stayed hot, scoring two goals and an assist against the Black Bears. Senior Matt Ferreira is the first River Hawk to crack double-digits this season with 10 points on five goals and five assists. In Saturday's 4-3 win, UMass Lowell finished 3-for-5 on the power play, recording three power play goals for the second time this season. With the four-goal third period on Saturday, the River Hawks have now outscored opponents 13-5 in the third period.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Oh wow. That's unacceptable.

For years, I've been telling Lowell fans that Hockey East isn't rigged. :o Sigh.

If I were UNH, this is the last thing I would want; looks like Hockey East just added some A-1 jet fuel to the Lowell fire.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Slightly off topic, does anyone know when the UConn Classic tickets go on sale?

Bet if you ask the ticket office they'll say "what the hell is that". My answer, don't worry about it. They won't get over 1,200 persons anyhow. For that matter, don't buy assigned seats unless that's where everybody else is... if things are still the same its much cheaper in the General Admission section for the same view on the other side of the ice.

edit: I've only seen it get close to full on rare occasions... usually free students in confluence with a special event. This will have neither and its over winter break. The campus is a ghost town. The only thing I'd check is if its co-incidental with a basketball game at Gampel. If that's the case then you'll have to pay for parking. Otherwise, parking in the student lot near the arena will be free.

Any recommendations on lodging?

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

They did that two straight times. In '94, the one you're remembering and '96, when I went out there. We beat Michigan State both times. In '96, we wound up losing to CC, who had the bye.
I was preg with Lil in 96and the timing couldn't have been worse!- due the week of the 6th. Mr told me, "Don't worry, they should really suck this yr" Yep, he was right on the money  He was out there, I was back here and his alpha-pager was non-functional where they were. Not a little stress.... Lil came the next weekend.

Unfortunately, the Nathan Hale inn (on campus) appears to be locked out. There is a hotel in Mansfield 6 miles off campus down 195. Otherwise, I am not really sure.

Likewise, for those interested... Food options can be haphazard over break.

Actually, I just remembered a good option near campus whose name I've forgotten... Havent been there need to check name

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

UML got the headline and a good portion of the article in this week's Hockey East article on USCHO:

Massachusetts-Lowell’s improvement could lead it to be a major player in Hockey East

Amazing how winning changes perception in the media and in general. Last year we were the laughing stock of Hockey East. Now, after the blowout of BU and a two-game sweep in Maine we are suddenly the darlings of the conference. Just imagine if we are able to close the deal over this weekend with two or more points.

If we lose both will it be "Lowell in soul searching tailspin". Don't get me wrong, I like what I see and want it to be true... but we are only eight games in.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Even with all this good press (it really is a nice, albeit low hanging journalistic fruit, story) I'm keeping my hopes and expectations at about "Hey, we're gonna get out of town alive!" This has been raised from the preseason "Do you think the bus driver knows where the hockey rink is?". Which is vast improvement to last years, "We're gonna have drink a lot of beer tonight to watch this team again."

That said the team has a certain spark that they didn't last year. They look like they actually want to go out there, play hard, play for each other, and get 2 points.
