On the way out of the arena a kind gentleman let us walk in front of his car. As we passed, he called out asking if we had room for Timmay. We respectfully declined.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Maine self destructed in the third with all the penalties. They were even going on a PP late in the third until Rutt takes a dumb boarding call to match it up. What a goon that Diamond is. He takes a deliberate run at Carr just before Lowell goes down and scores the game winner. Total cheap shot.

Great weekend for the Hawks. They were lucky to be down by only two going into the third tonight, but they never gave up and continued to work. It's going to be a pleasant ride home tomorrow morning.

Diamond reminds me of another Maine punk, Prestin Ryan, who was as dirty and as big a cheap shot artist as they get. Of course Maine fans think they are/were both wonderful and not the slightest bit dirty....

That's not true. Prestin Ryan played with rage on his face. He was totally out of control alot of the time. Diamond has his aggressive moments but he plays the game without the rage and anger that Prestin had. He does have a reputation for embellishing penalties and taking stupid penalties ,but he has improved dramatically in the last few games. He has been playing with more discipline recently after being benched. Making this comparison is totally inaccurate and unfair. I came to this thread to give the River Hawks and their fans some praise after the "sweep". I'm now finding it difficult to do so after your unfair characterization and name calling.:(

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Gary was kind enough to send me updates tonight as I was at a charity dinner. Seeing we were down 2-0 didn't surprise me at all as I figured Maine was going to come out flying. But talk about a surprise, not only does Lowell come back, they take the lead. And even though they gave up the tying goal, they didn't sit there and feel sorry for themselves, they just went out and won the game.

There's just something different about this team, and whatever it is ... I like it. Wilson walks away from this weekend with a 2-1-3, Wetmore with three goals. Man, this is fun.

Never saw this guy before so please don't judge all of us by one post

Agree with Monty- singing 'there is something in the air...'

My attitude is this truly is the yr of no expectations so I was happy with the change in demeanor. The wins are the icing on the cake.

Coming from a fan of Brooks Orpik, Tony Voce and the cheapest player ever in HE, Patrick Eaves this is a hoot

We're not all like that and in fact, don't recall seeing that handle around although I haven't been reading/posting muh lately. Thanks for wandering over to give us props, it is appreciated. Good luck with your team, unfortunately I think you'll need it. And no, you can't give Timmay back; no returns accepted!

UML has suffered many tough losses over the years at Alfond Arena. The last time the River Hawks swept Maine at home was 1985. I am pleased for UML and their fans as they currently have a team playing well and are enjoying some success. By the way, here's a quiz for you UML fans. Do any of you know what the initials JVP mean on the back of Rollins' helmet?

Could it be the coaching?

Last week at UNH, Diamond took a dumb penalty with about 2.5 minutes left in the game down one, in the offensive zone, and the best part was, instead of back checking while UNH pulled the goalie, he stayed in that zone and whined about it so UNH essentially was on a 6 on 4 for a little bit. Too bad they didn't score.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Wow, you guys are studs! Congratulations and keep it up. Maybe a coaching change would be the ticket for us too.....

as a matter of principle, I support coaching changes at every school (other than my own) which has tended to have a better run of things in recent years. So, I hope, for your and my sake, that a coaching change comes soon.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

Don't forget, UML Field Hockey going for a repeat National Championship today at 1.

Those were the dirtiest players to ever play in Hockey East. Even dirtier than Prestin !! :D I'm not sure if Orpik or Eaves is the king of cheap.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

An observation as I wind my way under our nations capital... It would seem to me that since we have mostly sophs and freshmen that the bulk of our team has a winning record up in Orono... Just a thought... We did play them only once up there last year, right?

Something to build on in breaking that mentality.

Re: UML 2011/2012 Season Thread

I'm still trying to get over a sweep at Maine. Due to the fact that Lowell has played the least amount of games in Hockey East (along with Vermont), you really have to like how this team is playing right now and getting results.

Carr is definitely the #1 at this point, I don't think there can be any question about that. Wilson and Wallin have been everything I thought they might be, and Wilson might be even better than I had expected. Now comes yet another tough weekend (aren't they all in HE) with Lowell heading to UNH and then hosting our sister school.

Other sports:
Tough loss for the Field Hockey team in the National Championship Game today, losing 2-1.

Men's Basketball improves to 2-0 with a 60-50 result over Post that won the UB Purple Knight Classic.

Women's Basketball suffered a loss to Holy Family to fall to 1-1 on the season.

And finally ... the UML Women's Soccer team had never made it past the first round of the NCAA Tournament. They've now got themselves into the round winning in penalties today after a 1-1 tie. They beat Bridgeport today, a team that came into the game as the #3 team in NCAA DII Women's Soccer, and a team that had been 16-0-1. Great win for Elie Monteiro's team, and good luck to them as they head into their Round of 16 game against St. Rose on the 18th. Lowell played early in the season at St. Rose and tied 1-1.
