UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

I have been in X for as long as the arena has been open. Until last yr they were always parked in the section closer to the zamboni door. That is where the famous bloody lip thing happended. Last yr they were in X but much more respectful of the folks that usually sit there.

ANd poop to you Patman- We 'old farts' have kids and there are some reasons why young kids (like Mike's nephews) sit far away from the student section. It isn't like we seat ourselves near a section that is wild and then complain. Kids will be kids but I don't like that a hoard of students from another school made it impossible to sit in my seats and my home rink didn't police the situation. If they were in the seats 'legally', fine but they were not.

I know, but i hear this a lot in various places... "those derned kids ruined me back by making me stand for a few minutes"... though, yeah, here you have tickets which are entitled to... somebody should be enforcing that... there's plenty of other open spaces the NU fans could have found.

We had one guy at the the UConn games last year get ****ed off with the RIT faction for standing the entire game despite the fact that all the tickets were GA.

I tend not to be so sympathetic when there's space to shuffle around, but you know, this is why we sell opposing fan tickets in section C or what not.

edit: what you should have done is brought the ushers in for the annual "flask check".

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

However, with the upswing in attendance by UML fans, our fans take precedence and ushers should have checked the NU fan tickets and then directed them to the proper section if they were in the wrong one.
I agree, we're talking about season ticket holders that were being forced to move today. I have no problem with the NU fans wanting to gather and stand but find a section were you can do it with out impacting folks. There were plenty of seats at the end of the arena today.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

I saw some inside the net shots... are you working through the league to get those images or is there some special set-up you have to put in the net that's been ok'd by people around you.

Just wondering... those shots are pretty cool and I'm sure there'll be one or two really iconic images out of those one of these days.

edit: one of these days when I see the right picture i want to get a poster made up... I see the means to do it on your website... just a matter of waiting for the right image.

My set up (and yes, it is cool with HE and wherever else I use it). Follows the NHL rules.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Love a 2 win weekend. And anytime Lowell beats NU is just fun. The dead silence from those guys from the second period till their goal was funny. They'd start a chant and it would die immediately. Good stuff.

It does kinda **** me off that the staff didn't respect those that have season tickets in Section X. The NU fans shouldn't be taking over season ticket holder's seats ... I'm sorry, that's just stupidity. And allowing it is even worse.

Another good student crowd tonight. Please come back next Friday night ... the team needs you.

Voting is open for the NU game.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

I agree with all you UML fans that were inconvenienced by the standing NU fans.

Unfortunately, the reality is that if you buy a ticket for a seat, you get the seat and the standing space in front of it. It's the same way for concerts.

As a former event staff member, I have heard all the stories about people standing up, people complaining to event staff and management, etc. One of the ways to fix this is to have a window or two at the box office dedicated only to opposing fans and sell only certain sections through those windows. This would have to be arranged ahead of time between arena management and UML management. Fans of their own kind are likely to police their own area rather than getting event staff involved with two competing teams fans. That is a no win situation.

I've seen security at Agganis make opposing fans sit down.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Overall, a great effort by the River Hawks yesterday to pull out the home weekend sweep. Again, the freshmen were noticeable and it panned into a key goal for the River Hawks in the second period. The PP and PK look great right now. They are shooting but the whole deal with the PP right now to pass, pass, pass; I saw it in the EDM-CGY game last night. NU did practically nothing on their PP. The 5-3 goal was textbook by the River Hawks. It's obvious to me that NU is rebuilding and the loss of Thiessen is striking. I do like Rawlings as a goaltender, he has potential to be a quality HE goalie but it could be a long year for the Huntington Hounds during the process.

Too many penalties in the third with a two-goal lead; doing the same thing against BU on Friday will not be a good thing. Unfortunately, from what I saw, I didn't have a problem with any call. Interestingly enough, I thought the hit on Edwards was a 5 and not a 2 and the hit by Guzior was a 2 and not a 5. Because of the hit on Edwards earlier, I think that's why the ref showed him the out door instead of the door to the château de sin bin.

A good crowd but it was obvious the 5:00 PM Saturday start did impact attendance, although the heavy rain held off until nightfall. Still, it was 1500 less than the Colgate game.

Really don't need to over-analyze the importance of next Friday's game; somehow the team has to take points. By doing so, it puts the pressure on BU on Saturday. At the same time, you don't want the season series to be decided against you in October unless it's the River Hawks with the edge.

This is a game that needs to have 6000+ in the barn...given with what happened in March and the potential to be a Top 10 game with a little luck, I don't think this will be a problem.

the power play was 4/12 this weekend, plus 6/21 overall, and shot the lights out.. the passing is always to set up a shooting lane or get out of trouble. it may not be the most satisfying way for fans to watch a PP, but it certainly gets results, so who cares?

These people did not have tickets for the seats they were in. There were people in my seats and the seats of a 'few others'. They had tickets to other seats in other sections. Last yr they solved this by making the people show their tickets- that removed them from where they didn't belong. When we got there we would literally have to be standing on our seats to see the game. We moved to standing above the Zamboni runway. No way we could have seen.

Agree with the comment at another arena too. I sat a few rows down from a BU fan with a cowbell. I was threatened with ejection for ringing mine yet their fan rang all night. That is homer advantage. We don't have it.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

part of the "just go find a section together" is that silly club area. those are blocked off, but usually always empty or barely used during the game.

and honestly, those seats behind the goal and net are great for GA type seating.

-- i of course, being a surly old fart, always live by the "READ YOUR TICKET AND SIT IN YOUR F'' ING SEAT!" credo. the way to get around that is to have designated GA sections and let those people find enough seats that you need and have fun.

that is crazy!!

BU/HAA absolute takes care of the people that pay for the product. if "term limits" meehan was my pres he'd be getting a call monday morning. :p

This is a good idea.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

i'm sure there are very few season ticket holders in next section, the arena seems to hold those for group sales. Last year that was where the NU guys gathered. They even removed the tarp just before the game started for a kids team group, and then they had to move too because X was all standing the whole game. Maybe we could just get rid of the tarps now.

For some reason X doesnt get an usher to keep people from coming down during play either. Yet four are standing in the "club" section to keep the unwashed from wandering up into the beautiful people section.

On the other hand...
Nice to see the freshmen contributing so much so early! Gonna be a great season.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

While it's not in the Sun yet, I've been told that the deal for the Tsongas has been finalized.

Aside from the sellout against Dartmouth for Opening Night of the arena, the 5619 against Colgate is our largest attendance for a non-conference game by a large margin. The previous best was 3429 against Clarkson in December, 2004.

Lowell climbed from 13 to 9 in the USCHO poll.

Also, strangely enough, all HE teams but Maine got at least a vote in this week's poll.

And they climbed from 12 to 8 in the USAToday poll. Only 6 HE teams got votes there.
