Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Overreact?
No, never. just let it go on by.

The students were excellent tonight. Biggest student turnout I have ever seen.

No offense to Colgate but they aren't a good team. Lowell played like crap in the 2nd period and pretty deserved to be down 3-2.

I told my friend before the 3rd period started that Lowell would score 3 goals and win. Not a bad prediction :D

Lowell has to play much better tomorrow to beat Northeastern. I hope Carter is in net as Nevin had a few shaky moments trying to F around with the puck.

The official attendance was 5,619.
Word. I loved looking down the end and seeing a sea of blue.:D

If they hadn't ok'd that goal it would have been pandemonium. Heard that the goalie actually put it in himself.

Some shaky moments but some really sick passing and plays at other points (yes I have a teenager).

I won't be there tom'w until the very end if at all- :( L'il has a game. BAD timing.

I did not see the puck go in the net but there was a wild scrum in front, bodies piled all over, a whistle blown and a red light on together, then it when to replay.

I've never seen this before   :p

My friend said he heard the whistle before the puck went in the net. I guess Tsongas has no audio like the Garden for replays lol.

Schaus' goal was a thing of beauty. Great puck movement and then it was in the back of the net.

The ref said he clearly saw the puck go in the net before the whistle. The light came on after the whistle from what I hear.

i figured it was going to be waved as i heard the whistle before the crowd erupted and it was enough time to have a separate thought.

Talking about whistles. What was up with the refs delaying the start of the 3rd period because they heard whistles in the crowd? Odd.

I assume the Tsongas is up and running with replay and the audio.

From the HE weekly press release (10/12/09).
Hockey East fans will have another new feature before long. Since the end of last season, the ten Hockey East athletic directors voted to install video replay equipment at all ten arenas. Some are up and running and the rest will be before the end of October. Each rink will be equipped with overhead cameras above the goals and a center ice camera to give officials multiple angles on all goals. Only the referee can initiate a replay and he will be governed by NCAA rules as to what he can review. A monitor at ice level will allow him to see the different camera angles as well as the time on the clock. There are also audio capabilities to assist in those situations where hearing a whistle could affect the outcome of a play. This should be a great tool for all officials in their quest to “get it right.”

This is also known as the "Lowell Rule" or the backdoor method in which the league acknowledges that Lowell was totally s c r e w e d in last year's HE championship game.

I agree, I just hope with the new tools available the refs got the call right tonight.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Also want to commend student section tonight both in terms of their overwhealming numbers and their strong vocal presence. Also noticed about 1/3 of the total student sections standing which was good...hopefully more will start to do it over there. Probably the most students I've ever seen at the Tsongas for the game. Spread the word and make sure the same amount or more show up for the NU game at 5:00 tomorrow.

Just please lose the B.S. cheer...we're above that and don't want to stoop to the level of Amherst's horrible gutter student fans.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

The goal would have stood even without video evidence. Grava wad right on top of the net and signaled goal originally so they wouldve needed the other ref to have some sort of more definitive view which is, of course, impossible.

I thought I heard a whistle first too, but no one else around me seemed to.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Great summary. I can't say enough about the student section tonight as they were great from start to finish. I hope they are there tomorrow.

It's great to see how big the section has gotten. I hope they keep showing up for all the games. We had a small problem with some yeah dudes who didn't get the idea that students can stand during a hockey game, and a few too many BS chants (which I contend can't be stopped with that many people) but otherwise it was a fantastic night.

Aside from UMLGoon's lack of faith in our team. Despicable.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

I was at the Colgate/UML game tonight, and even though my team lost, I just wanted to say that you guys have a great home arena. I felt like I was at an AHL game (probably because the arena hosts the Lowell Devils as well). You guys have a great team, and it showed in the 3rd period. Good luck tomorrow against Northeastern.

IMO, with the BS stuff... if that keeps up and doesn't get under control then the administration is going to do it themselves. I hope it doesn't come to that and i know its not the fault of any of us here but I'd hope we can do all this without having to be sanitized by the administration.

Otherwise, its great to see the progress around the school and the program.

The BS stuff was, well BS. I think the students will be better than that going forward.

A crowd whistle stopped play at atleast one point, possibly more. (I know I thought play was stopping a couple more times than that due to whistles that were not by the officials.) Both coaches were upset. Don't know what went wrong with the communication - the coaches were promised a minute or so from the end of the second period that an announcement would be made and then it wasn't. At Lowell, the announcer is not at ice level.

It is ridiculous for someone to pull that kind of **** at a game. Whoever was doing it might actually be a bigger loser than the folks behind me and the Colgate bench constantly kicking the glass. Apparently they really wanted to knock a panel down since after I showed them the screw that had already popped out of the upright from their kicking, they just kicked harder.

I saw some inside the net shots... are you working through the league to get those images or is there some special set-up you have to put in the net that's been ok'd by people around you.

Just wondering... those shots are pretty cool and I'm sure there'll be one or two really iconic images out of those one of these days.

edit: one of these days when I see the right picture i want to get a poster made up... I see the means to do it on your website... just a matter of waiting for the right image.
