Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

I saw some inside the net shots... are you working through the league to get those images or is there some special set-up you have to put in the net that's been ok'd by people around you.

Just wondering... those shots are pretty cool and I'm sure there'll be one or two really iconic images out of those one of these days.

edit: one of these days when I see the right picture i want to get a poster made up... I see the means to do it on your website... just a matter of waiting for the right image.

I noticed that there was something inside 1 of nets. This must have been the camera used for those shots. Great pictures of the action last night.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

It's great to see how big the section has gotten. I hope they keep showing up for all the games. We had a small problem with some yeah dudes who didn't get the idea that students can stand during a hockey game, and a few too many BS chants (which I contend can't be stopped with that many people) but otherwise it was a fantastic night.

Yes it was great to see the large crowd and the huge students section last night. I do wish that more of the students wait to leave until after the handshakes so the team can salute them. Also we were sitting in Section B and the extra "whistle" could be heard there. I have never heard this at the Tsongas before so I hope this was a one time thing.

Great comeback after that terrible 2nd period. I don't remember a Lowell team getting controlled along the boards like they did in that period. This did not happen in the 3rd and definitely not in the 1st, I look for a strong game from UML tonight vs NU.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Lowell did a great job last night coming out of the gates. They were flying around, hitting anything that moved, and that led to them winning the battle to pretty much every loose puck there was. They got away from that in the 2nd period and half of the third mainly because they were in the box. It took Holmstrom's "elbow" (was a clean hit) to get them back into the game, and that resulted in 3 goals in 2:55.

Nevin needs to stop leaving those juicy rebounds, but then again, his first real action of the season. He seems to get stronger as the season progresses.

Really liked what I saw out of Colin Wright. He was hitting anyone and everyone in a Colgate sweater, popped one in, and took a good penalty standing up for Ferreira after he got shoved face first into the boards.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

I was at the Colgate/UML game tonight, and even though my team lost, I just wanted to say that you guys have a great home arena. I felt like I was at an AHL game (probably because the arena hosts the Lowell Devils as well). You guys have a great team, and it showed in the 3rd period. Good luck tomorrow against Northeastern.

Rainman, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to the Tsongas. Best of luck to Colgate the rest of the way.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Great crowd last night, and a good win. Student section was great, loved them standing. I don't have as much of a problem with the BS chant as the "Colgate sucks" chant. First, I hate a chant like that because it's not in the least bit creative. Secondly, doing that chant when your team is down ... is kinda pathetic. If they suck, why are they beating us?

Anyway, I do hope they come back tonight and next Friday and every home game this year.

I hope the team plays like they did the last 10 minutes for 60 tonight. God, I feel like I've been saying this for years. If Lowell could just learn to play for 60 minutes...

Please don't forget folks, vote for the 3 players of the game at the site in my signature.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

If Lowell could stay out of the box in the 3rd, Hutton would have had his 2nd shutout of the year. Can't complain too much with a 2-0 weekend.

Hutton played well tonight. It seemed like NU was on the PP for 8 or 10 minutes in the 3rd period.

Spirited game tonight and I'm very happy that Lowell took both games this weekend. I'm looking forward to the BU game on Friday. Tsongas should be packed for that one.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

Great game tonight, and my nephew will attest to the fact I picked both final scores this weekend. (Although I was sitting next the net third period and I definately think there was a fourth goal.)

I gotta say the Northeastern students were classless. They picked a section and stood up the whole game, so regular seat holders had to move out of our seats to see the game. The arena staff were no help either. I understand why they would want to stand at Mathews, it could collapse at any moment and they want to have a fair chance at escape, but at another teams rink you really should behave. Im thinking ill skip the away game at NU this year, not give them my $...

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

We showed up late and couldn't even get to our seats. As a group they are fun to watch but to interact they are not fun. It is one thing to behave that way to other students but not to adults with kids. We stood up at the end over Hutts. Not a bad view-got to see them skulk out. :p

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

..cmon Mike there were plenty of seats to go around. Good gm though, both goalies played pretty well.

my guess is the arena staff are picking the smaller fight... fight with the half dozen ticket holders than the 3 dozen NU fans.

I'm not usually tremendously sympathetic to the old fart crowd but if this is a concern (standing outside of the student section... that is to say, standing constantly) then why not bring it up with Dana or somebody? The arena staff may not care but I'm sure somebody in arena management or somebody with the school might care.

Traditionally that's where the NU students have always gravitated to at Tsongas, Section X, for as long as I can remember. However, with the upswing in attendance by UML fans, our fans take precedence and ushers should have checked the NU fan tickets and then directed them to the proper section if they were in the wrong one.

I did over hear a few NU students on the way in saying their seats were in Section C but upon seeing their friends in X, headed over that way.

NU doesn't return to Tsongas this year in regular season but if we meet up in playoffs at Tsongas, by all means have the ushers enforce the ticket policy. If not, ask for a supervisor. If that doesn't work, ask for Craig Gates or Dana Skinner.

I have been in X for as long as the arena has been open. Until last yr they were always parked in the section closer to the zamboni door. That is where the famous bloody lip thing happended. Last yr they were in X but much more respectful of the folks that usually sit there.

ANd poop to you Patman- We 'old farts' have kids and there are some reasons why young kids (like Mike's nephews) sit far away from the student section. It isn't like we seat ourselves near a section that is wild and then complain. Kids will be kids but I don't like that a hoard of students from another school made it impossible to sit in my seats and my home rink didn't police the situation. If they were in the seats 'legally', fine but they were not.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread

The number of wide open backdoors the 'Hawks missed in the first period alone was unreal. Rawlings couldn't have done a thing about any of them as long he takes to get across the crease. Could have been a 3-4 goal lead in the first if they make those connections.

All in all it was a good game from Lowell. The penalties were out of hand and they need to fix that problem before it comes back to kill them. Loving the play of Wetmore and Wright, especially Wright's willingness to get in there and hit someone.

Nothing I saw from NU concerns me tonight. Lowell should take this season series walking away.
