UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

I'd love to see a win. Maybe Lowell catches BC coming off the Beanpot high (ha!). In general, the River Hawks have played at least up to the level of their opponent. That's about the only positive I can throw out there.

I mentioned this to Ryan and Tony last Saturday night, I honestly feel like any day now this team is going to realize it's season's going down the tubes and start playing like we all FEEL it's capable of playing. The seniors all talked about leaving a legacy early in the season... I hope they remember their own words and start playing with a sense of urgency, or the legacy they'll be leaving behind will be embarrassing.

Wierd news...the rumor around the Beanpot last week was that Harvard was out starting next year, and Lowell and Amherst would be alternating in the future.... I guess it's one way to get to the Garden.

has anyone else heard about the demise of Harvard Hockey?

I know people won't like this, but I think the Beanpot has run it's course. Getting rid of Harvard and just making the Beanpot a 4 Hockey East team Tournament seems pointless.

yeah none of this is going to happen.

The Beanpot is as powerful and influential as hockey in Massachusetts. Right now hockey is weaker in the state so its not going to be all that influential... hell, most of these kids spend their later influential years way outside of the region in leagues like the USHL.

What would happen if you asked an 18 year old from NJ or Canada about the Beanpot?

I understand what you're saying. But a tournament that's been won half the time by one team, has seen either BC or BU in every single final, hasn't been won by a team not named BU or BC since 1993 (the only time in the last 20 years) ... just doesn't appeal, to me anyway. It's a tradition for those four schools.

I agree with Goon that Harvard isn't leaving the Beanpot any time soon. Harvard, while not winning the Beanpot since 1993, only has five less than BC.

The Beanpot, in my honest opinion should be treated as exempt games from the NCAA schedule allowing the three HE schools the option of playing two more non-conference games (realizing that Harvard is barring from this per Ivy League rules). This in-season tournament has no bearing on HE and penalizes BC, BU, and NU by limiting their non-conference schedule.

then they can not play the tournament... plain and simple.

i get that fans of the other schools, even or especially those not involved are sick of the BC-BU thing but if you were in the building monday night (maybe you were) then to say "it has run it's course" , um, i dont think so...........just a spectacular event. i think the people with Lowell , North Dakota, UNH, Maine and more than a few other college hockey jerseys would also most likely politely disagree with you

I see you were trying to post around 6:30/

I agree with UML fan. The beanpot is boring. Same 2 teams always win. Only rotating thru eliminates one of them in the early round sometimes (they play each other). Lots of hype and a whole lotta who cares except those people who attend those schools. Even some of them aren't interested any more.

I never said the games couldn't be exciting. I usually wind up watching the final myself because I love watching hockey. That doesn't mean that knowing who's most likely to win before the tournament starts makes it kinda boring. And if that teams doesn't win, the other one will ... while the other two just continue showing up.

look, the only reason its a big deal is because it ends up being some of the office chatter in greater boston. Being here in DC the only reason I even noticed it was because I visit these boards. Otherwise I could care less about the Beanpot... now, if Lowell were to get involved somehow that means i have a stake in it... but as it stands there's not a reason to really care about the Boston Monday Tournament.

The only reason to watch and talk about it is because everybody else is... and eventually you get sick of talking about the same stuff. I'm absolutely sick to death of Sox/Yanks so I'll rarely talk about it. I think I'm not the only one who thinks talking about how BC and BU are playing again is a waste of my time.

That's why I'm keeping the faith. I'm disappointed home ice is out of the equation but I'm not giving up yet.

Will probably see you at Beer Works tomorrow.

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Let's all look at the bright side - as ugly as this weekend might get - Lowell won't be helping BC in the Pairwise.

Yes you will. Here's hoping we can actually have a celebratory beer after. Wow, this team needs a win tonight.
