Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II
Lowell looked really good in that UNH game but they also looked incredibly lackluster against UAH... yes, I know goon looks at that game and sees how we shut them down defensively.... on the other side of the ice we didn't look anything like that team that made its way to the Garden. That team last year had this firm confidence of where to move the puck and when to do it... for the life me I don't know how you lose that but we did. I just can't understand how we lost that crispness of understanding because those plays seem to be more mental than physical/talent. The team last year knew what to do at the end of the season... yes, even when playing all those teams even... the fundamental was their play and the scores were just a result of that... sure we could have lost that Vermont series but we were playing the way you would ever want a team. They played with control, with awareness, and with confidence. Somewhere they lost that poise with the puck.
I don't know if I have the UNH game in my DVR drive anymore but the team that played UAH didn't look all that intimidating despite limiting UAH.
I have no other things to point to since I haven't watched a game since then. I just don't understand how you lose some of the more mental aspects of the game.
edit: i have the UNH game queued up... 2nd period... Melrose (not word for word) "Lowell's having a really hard time getting it going early in the period... they had the same problems last period"... geez... seems like a year long problem for us.
Lowell was a team that was #3 in the nation at one point this season and in firm control in HE. The team we saw destroy UNH in the third period on ESPNU in November was the team everyone in this town wanted and expected to see. Since then, for a variety of known and unknown reasons, they haven't been back to that form. Every four years, Lowell gets a senior-laden team and the expectations go through the roof that we are going make some noise. The lack of Lowell responses since the loss last night is a prime indication of how far the disappointment has reached.
