UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Groundhog Day Part 234:

Lowell loses another one-goal game.

Lowell can't win a big game against BU.

Unless Lowell wins tomorrow, splits against BC and sweeps Maine, I don't see how we are getting home ice.

See you at Merr-i-mack.

A new way to lose a game. This UML loss is because of 2 SHGs. Very disappointing indeed and this season appears to be lost. Also getting outshot 11-2 in the 3rd with being down one goal is just plain awful. Not much of a comeback attempt. :(

Back from my party. As I predicted. Everytime they do something big at the arena we lose. They have to stop already.:(

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

Maybe some fingers should start being pointed at the coach. He plays the same system week in week out, says that this is a talented group, but makes them play the same throw it up the wall, to which every team in h.e. knows to trap, which takes away the forwards getting to the puck,. BU did it to perfection in the third. Hats off to parker for putting a game plan in that works., Blaise is either to pig headed or stupid to realize that this isnt working. He hopefully is on thin ice with Lowell's higher ups, This school deserves a winning program, and if he can't get it done, then they should bring someone in who will.

It is what it is.If the coach can't get it done with this team, not much hope for the future.

who was on the pp last night? We gave up 2 shorties and Dehner wasn't playing. Who ended up playing in his place?

Re: UML '09/'10 Season Thread Part II

what the heck are up with these shot droughts... both the 2nd and 3rd periods (according to Bob) we went a long time without registering more than 1 or 2 shots... i gotta imagine that's frustrating but there's got to be a way to get to the puck to the net more often even if its just to see what happens.

Lil told me Budd was benched? THen he went out the door to practice leaving me with no explanation.

Well, to be fair, they did attempt a lot of shots. BU wound up blocking a lot of them. More than I've ever seen this season.

Congrats again on taking over the arena! I like the new logo and how they've already incorporated it around the arena. Looks good. I like the video ribbon as well. Nice addition. I will say that during the intro of the lineup when they just show the eyes-that's a little.......odd. And kudos to your PA announcer for being what I think is the only announcer at a visiting arena that properly pronounced Alex Chiasson's name correctly. :)

Jim Prior was in the house and properly coached him. Jim was a goal-judge last night at the far end of the rink.

On the "all this negativity that's in this town sucks" front, a loss to Merrimack tonight and a win by UVM and we are one point away from eighth place.

On the other hand, a win by Lowell, a UNH win, and a Providence win will give us a two point lead on fifth place, and just two points from Amherst whom are in a free fall of late.

What does it all mean...we could be playing anyone, anywhere except Merrimack and Providence.

Barring getting paged, I will be sitting in the new visitor section where we shoot twice.

Lil is playing at Brooks and then we are thinking of heading over. Not sure how much rollercoaster stuff I can take. Not in the mood to walk a mile from their parkinglot either. Meh. Last yr I would have been optimistic.

I've certainly made no attempt to hide my own dislike for Blaise's performance on here but I usually get shot down so I'll try and keep it at a minimum. But I completely agree with the lack of adjustment. To me and my apparently uneducated brain, the PP is a prime example. The sort of reverse-umbrella formation worked like a world-beater at the beginning of the season but then every other team scouted it, figured it out and has been able to stop it. And with seeming little or no adjustment on Lowell's part. Maybe I'm missing something.... (And I don't buy the Dehner-being-out as an excuse. He's one player on one line. It's a team sport and this team is allegedly deeper than that).

I wasn't making a Dehner excuse- I really am curious who he filled in with. The boys are out and have been since this AM and I can't ask them

Agree about the PP. BU was really preassuring the puck / points on the PP, just like BC did a couple of weeks ago. Lowell seems to struggle to adjust to that, or they fail to move the puck quick enough to take advantage. At this point they should just get pucks to the net and hope for the best.

From the boxscore on the Hockey East site. It looks like both PP units got burned last night. That was a beautiful pass by Shattenkirk on the first SH goal.

BU 2 - 1 5x6 SH Zach Cohen (9) (Kevin Shattenkirk, Corey Trivino) 9:49
BU (+): 11,3,7,10,G31 UML (-): 10,20,16,5,15,G1

BU 3 - 1 5x6 SH GW David Warsofsky (7) (Eric Gryba) 11:25
BU (+): 5,11,10,2,G31 UML (-): 7,12,6,21,22,G1

From the Lowell Sun:
Then in the third period the River Hawks mustered a meager two shots on goal, none in the last 45 seconds after Hamilton (30 saves) had been pulled from the net for a sixth skater. UML, which had won 38 of 50 faceoffs in the first two periods, lost 14 of 17 in the third. The River Hawks finished with just 18 shots on goal against a goalie who took a weak .885 save percentage into the game.

right but it's one player that plays literally half the game in every situation imaginable and is asked to start everything offensively. dehner's puckrushing is unmatched on this team and the breakout has been the biggest problem in the two games for which he's been out. lowell gets stapled into its own zone far too frequently and has had no success at actually getting the puck deep in the O zone and keeping it there without him.

dehner's been out for two games and if you take half the periods they've played without him (the first against NU and the first and third against BU) they've been outshot 39-11.

that this has happened in his absence is no coincidence.
