UMass Lowell: 2023-24 Season

Anyone hear anything about a black Friday or cyber Monday ticket sale which they have done in years past? Am I the only one here who feels under-informed this year? I didn't know about the canned food for tix exchange on Saturday night vs Merrimack until I walked in the door that night.

We've reached a sad point where Merrimack fans are thoroughly disappointed that they lost to Lowell. Merrimack. Seriously.
Why wouldn't I be disappointed? Merrimack was 6-1 in their last seven matchups with UML prior to Saturday night. Disappointed that the Warriors lost, but more disappointed in their lack of effort. So from my perspective it is "You lost to Lowell. Seriously". I'm always disappointed when Merrimack loses to a team that I think they are at least the equal of. I imagine you feel they same way about UML.

Game day. Hopefully the Hawks can avoid any turkey hangover and take care of business against Bentley and Army.

This is an embarrassing effort from the Riverhawks.

You can say that again. After a decent 1st period Bentley just took the game over in the 2nd. After Lowell took back-to-back penalties, it was all downhill after that. Bentley just dominated the rest of the way. The Hawks were outshot 40-15, they had only 5 shots over the final two periods. What's going on??

I wanted to hang out in a bar after the game but i went to Walmart first for a $12 flannel to swap for my jersey so i wouldn't have to explain how bad this team was tonight. Getting a 1 goal lead and going into prevent mode isn't working with our depleted defense. Weak plan, weak effort.

Cole was wearing Meehan's usual C tonight. Not sure what that means going forward as far as Meehan injury timeline but if that's anything to go by then it's looking long term

14 goals over the last 9 games. 5 shots the last two periods vs Bentley. This is setting up to be the worst team in the Bazin era. I'd like to think we can beat Army today, but that won't tell us anything. Just an embarrassing performance last night.

It's been awhile....

I'm very concerned about the not only the team but the school as a whole. Before I get to that, that was probably the ugliest non-league game since I believe we gave one away to Niagara during a snowstorm about 15 years ago...not exactly sure of the date.

Now for the concerns....

1. Team: It's obvious after the [Dillan] Bentley goal, the Falcons raised it up about 100 levels and the River Hawks were all too ready to acquiesce. One would have thought that the Merrimack OT game last week at home would have brought them back to center. The PP goal was one thing but the quick goal not 12 or so seconds later was the icing on the cake. They were outshot 32-5 in the final two periods which leads me to believe they have waived the white flag and that they just don't buy into the system any longer. It's a dangerous place to be and what is the most shocking is we haven't seen this type of performance by any of Bazin's teams. The end result prompts more questions than answers where no one outside of the team can fathom.

2. School: The larger concern I have is the financial status of the school. If you weren't aware, there were about 20-25 layoffs in academic staff recently as the school is $37M underwater.

Now well past its D-I probationary period, it's not a stretch to say it's very hard to compete at the elite level this team was a decade ago without adequate monetary backing. With the men's basketball team now enjoying some major success in the past two weeks, including nearly sweeping its more difficult non-conference games, hockey isn't at the forefront any longer.

Today's game is an obvious 100% must win....any other result will likely lead to a retooling season and NCAA tourney hopes, as slim as they are now on a realistic level, dashed.

After yesterday's performance I wonder what lineup changes we'll see.

And when you consider Norm is making great money, it’s a pretty bad look when his team is as awful as it is and layoffs are simultaneously happening at the university. Very difficult to justify it.

Another game where this team cannot score more than 2 goals. They didn't even carry play at all for more than a few brief spurts. Constantly one and done in the offensive zone. And possession they get is perimeter play. Not to mention the undisciplined play taking 2 penalties really early in the game.

The team got out worked and out played in both games. Where's the intensity? They have no offensive flow; the passing is seldom tape to tape. Everything is too slow when getting shots off. Even the defense struggled with the forecheck and moving the puck out. Just an embarrassing weekend of hockey. I just hope Norm starts recruiting more talented offensive players.

No Cardona or Silkains this weekend. More injuries?
