UMass Lowell: 2023-24 Season

We knew they'd be offensively challenged, but the injuries are just killing them right now. Down 5 players, including 3 of your top 5 defensemen is a tough hill to climb for any team. A brutal schedule isn't helping. Their 1st 9 league games are against teams picked in the coaches poll to finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. The good news is, after December 1, we only have 1 game left against those 4 teams, so in theory, things should get a little better. Of course, teams picked to finish below Lowell are red hot right now, so we'll see if that is really the case.

A tough game last night. That's the first game that really go away from them. I knew this stretch was going to be brutal, but I thought/hoped they would at least earn a slit with either BC or BU.
Listening to Norm's post-game press conference on Friday he mentioned some of the injuries were longer term. So, who knows when this team will get back to full strength.

I though Ben Brunette had a good weekend. He really can skate and loves to jump into the offensive play which resulted in his first D1 goal. He'll need to pick his spots but with the lack of goal scoring it's nice to see. He also made some nice open ice hits.

Congratulations to Adam Cardona on his first D1 goal last night.

Three goals on the weekend by defensemen which is great. No goals by the forwards not so great.

Cross country flight and playing a second game in 48 hours doesn't give me much hope. But great to see them go out and beat an ACC school on the road.

Saw Arizona States game against a similarly tough defensive team in Miss St earlier... they couldnt get a run going at all. So if we play like we have been... I possibly see another W

Any update on Stella?? i know his hit was egregious, didnt know if anything came of it (hes been out ever since). No fowler either kills any offense this team has (other than Crasa). I know this year was gonna be tough but not this tough. Luckily i think with Boschetto's recruiting so far... we are seeing a bit of change in philosophy from Norm.

Between the injuries and the suspension, the Hawks will really need everyone to step up their game tonight. According to Mike McMahon, Merrimack has won the last 3 games against Lowell and 5 of the last 6.

Mack is surprisingly 0-3 in HE play at home so far this year, swept by Maine and then losing to UConn last week. They've been outscored 11-8 in those three games, meaning they do give up goals. But can the Lowell offense find the net? For the Saturday game, Mack is 2-0 in league play on the road outscoring NU and UConn 10-4.

Mack is 2 points up on us in the standings (with one less game played), but has doubled our offensive output (even having played one fewer game) while giving up goals on average just a bit worse than Lowell.

I just have no idea what to expect from this Hawks team at this point.
