UMass Lowell: 2023-24 Season

Something is really rotten with this team. Awful effort in OT and terrible shoot-out "attempts"

I think the only thing rotten is the lack of goal scoring. I thought the team played hard tonight and deserved better but when you can only score a goal the margin for error is very thin. Tonight, it came down to a blocked shot that turned the game.

Watched the entire game on TV last night and honestly it was tough to watch. How many odd-man rushes did we give up? We have so little speed (yes, I know there are injuries). Hell, there was another 2-on-1 with about 10 seconds left in regulation. Breakaways, 2-on-1, 3-on-1 and thankfully Welsch was outstanding.

7 league games played, 2 or less goals in each of them. 4 games with just one goal scored. In 4 league games, Welsch has given up just 7 goals, has a 1.75 GAA and a 94.8% save rate ... and has been able to only get one win. These are all just facts.

Watching them get behind against better teams and coming up a little short I can take. But watching them get a lead over equal or lesser teams and sitting back on their heels in their own end, playing just to hold on, is driving me nuts. I bet at least 15 minutes of period 3 and 4 minutes of OT were in our end. UML coasted around watching Merrimack move their feet and dumped it out when they got possession as if we were ahead by 2 or 3 goals. I don't think we attacked the man with the puck a single time in OT. Can't blame lack of scoring touch when we didn't carry play into the o zone and put ourselves in the position to score for the last 20 minutes. Play to win damn it!

I know recruits pay attention, but man, listening to the announcers about how "gritty" we are, and how we "muck" things up, and "slow" things down ... just made me wonder how many higher-end forwards would have no interest in playing in that type of system.

Coach Norm it’s on you to start to think of changing the system it starts with You nice crowds ot the games but we know what happens I remember 900 at games they would give boxes of pizza away season tkts would have free passes so please don’t let this become the Titinsc

I am considering not renewing my season ticket. I was hopeful the assistant coaching changes might lead to some changes in the offense but that’s not the case and things seem to be getting worse.

I know there are injuries and suspensions, but I don’t think the team would be dramatically better with everyone available. All these super senior transfers arrive having scored 20-30 points on AHA teams and then on this team they score as much as a Freshman (if even that).

I like seeing the team score goals. I find it entertaining. That’s why I am there. I think I’d rather see them lose games 4-3 than 2-1.

I hope things change.

Last second loss by Lowell at Arizona State 71-69. Pretty impressive performance overall by the guys out west.

I agree it was great effort, but what a tough finish. They let it slip away at the end after leading all game long.
Yeah, terrible turnover. Would have been great for the team (and America East) to go on the road and beat two major conference teams back to back.

For people looking for some hockey tonight. NESN will have a third straight night of HE coverage with #9 Maine at #8 BU. The Black Bears (6-1-1) are off to a great start, it will be interesting to see how they match up with the Terriers.

Good (and desperately needed win). Finally got a home win as well. This team is going to struggle to score goals all year though. We've reached a sad point where Merrimack fans are thoroughly disappointed that they lost to Lowell. Merrimack. Seriously.

I absolutely loved the way they came out in the 2nd! Brunette and O'Donnell took it to the Jesuit diving team (i dont think ive seen a player flop more than Jeffries). Id love to see players like Bentley and Fornaa Svensson use their bodies with their big frame

Looking like Fowler will he out longer than just the winter break.

Fingers crossed Meehan isn't out long term either but he probably will be out a few weeks from the sounds of it

From what I've heard, Stella and Schweighardt could be back as soon as this weekend, Meehan and Blanchard are likely out until Christmas, and Fowler is hoping to return at some point in the 2nd half.

Thanks for the update, Scott.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
