UMass Lowell: 2023-24 Season

Dreadful stuff per usual. Bob Ellis alluded it late in the third, four shots on goal in that final period when down by one is completely unacceptable.

22 shots for the entire game, and I can't remember a single one that actually tested Haider.

At this point, you just have to laugh.

Agree, they finally put one in the net, but it gets waved off due to a quick whistle. Then Truman hits the post on the ensuing faceoff. No luck, no bounces. You have to figure the dam will break one of these nights and everything will go in.

Stats can tell you what you need to know ... Lowell scored 2 goals in 3 games against UConn this year. Maine put up 4 in a 20 minute span alone today (and 7 in the game) to beat the same team. UConn has given up over 4 goals per game in league play when not playing Lowell, but only 0.67 per game against Lowell.

Great to get a win today, and it was so very needed. When Lowell scored 2 in the first 10 minutes (and 2 in less than 2 minutes), I thought ... OK, maybe, we're going to see the breakout game. Instead, back to the norm. And yet another period where we were so heavily dominated it's pathetic (shots were 15-3 in the second for UVM). Good to see Owens and Peterson get their first goals though, and Welsch was great again and really deserved the W.

Only the 2nd time all season they scored 2 goals before the end of the 2nd period. (The other was the loss at BC)

Only the 2nd time all season they had a lead at the end of the 1st period. (The other was the OT loss to UConn)

12-0-1 in their last 13 against Vermont. Longest unbeaten streak against a single team in program history.

Yikes, these are just horrible stats 16 games into the season.

On a brighter note, Welsch was named Goaltender of the Week by Hockey East.

Welsch has allowed on average less than 2 goals per game in the 10 starts, and has a 4-5-1 record. He hasn't allowed more than 3 goals in a game once this year.

Couple of NC games this weekend, against Holy Cross (home Friday, away Saturday). The Crusaders come in at 8-7-2 into the weekend and are 4-1 in their games against teams we've played (beat Bentley twice, beat UConn twice, lost to Army). Lowell went 1-4 versus those teams.

The last two before the break it would be nice to finish with a couple more wins. A big win at UVM, but that 2nd period was brutal to watch.

It was good to get the W, but this team just isn't entertaining. There's just so little offensive prowess, it's really pretty pathetic.

Can’t wait to see how coach fixes this mess it’s been festering for a couple of years and it caught up to us it will be interesting don’t see much down the pipe line

Not only is the pipeline a concern (is there a single D man recruit that can contribute on offense?) but I am concerned about those who may enter the portal after this bad season like Truman and Crasa.
