UMass Lowell: 2023-24 Season

We slowly become a basketball school as both men and women dust away UNH. Women get their first win of the season.

Happy for the guys to get the W today. Even scored 7 goals!

How is Harvard soooo f'in bad? With that much talent (10 drafted players) and just one win on the season?

i suppose that's the counter for me wanting norm to have more talent in the room

A tough weekend coming up for the Hawks against Maine. The Black Bears have really taken a giant step forward this season. I thought they would be improved but I didn't expect them to be ranked in the top ten in the polls /pairwise. The Hawks will have their hands full. Hopefully their offensive output from Arizona continues. Hoping for the best.

Anyone else making the trip to Orono?

0 heart. This team is going to lose 5-1 in the first game of the playoffs. This team needs changes and if means Norm is out the door than so be it. He put the team back on the map but things have gotten stale

Let’s not pretend we are surprised at this weekends outcome. Of course I was hoping they’d win a game but Maine is a national championship contender and when they get into their rhythm it’s tough for any team to slow them down, let alone this River Hawks team. As for firing Norm I’m completely against it. One of our biggest complaints we have had with Norm was recruiting and lack of youth and scorers in the pipeline. With this new staff you’re seeing young talent and USHL talent committing to Lowell. Fire Norm and this staff and the de-commits will follow. The philosophy has changed on the recruiting front and we should be excited about that. When in Arizona I had the opportunity to chat with a parent. He told me that his kid said this team was the closest/ tight knit team he had ever played on. You think they’re enjoying this season? You think the seniors want to go out on this note? No shot but they’re sticking together. This sucks for everyone. You don’t fire a coach for one bad season. You fire a coach when these seasons become a habit (paging Bill Belichick).

I would disagree that we are not in a habit and I know the words I kept hearing was a team of individuals. For a close knit team they don't play like it. They dont. They dont do the things they need for each other. They don't take the next step

Agreed. Many of us have been asking for this recruiting change for a while, and sadly it took too long. Of course, we won't even see the change really impact the program for a couple more years. But I'm with you, I'm not on the Fire Bazin bandwagon.

On a better note for Lowell athletics, after a rough patch of three losses out of four games against D1 comp, basketball has rebounded with 7 straight wins and will host UVM Thursday night. Lowell currently is in first place at 5-0 in America East (14-4 overall), while UVM is 4-0 (14-5) and in second. Pretty important early season matchup (in regards to league play) as the fight for home-court starts up.
