UMass Lowell: 2023-24 Season

Tough one last night. I thought the Hawks played well for the first two periods, but things go away from them in the 3rd. I'm not sure Henry Welsch could have done anything on the three goals he gave up. Two were on nice shots by NU's top goal scorers and the third was a deflection off a Lowell player for an easy tap in. The Hawks had some decent offensive zone time and put 42 shots on net, but I'm not sure how many would be considered "Grade A". Overall, I thought the team played well this weekend and took a step forward. Hopefully that continues against PC on Saturday night.

Apparently, the refs really botched the video review at the end of the game. Lowell should have been awarded a penalty shot. Replay clearly shows a PC player covering the puck in the crease and then pulling it out.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the disaster of the hockey season (and I doubt it does), but Peter Casey is done at Lowell after this semester is over. Lowell will be looking for a new Athletic Director. The short article on the site makes me feel that he isn't choosing to leave.

Im wondering if it is because of the performance of the other sports as a whole. It will be interesting to see where the university goes, as we all know there have been cuts here and there. Will they keep Norm on at the end of the season as well?

I can't imagine the university would let Norm go.

I'm in agreement on this. You can't let him go after one down year. Basketball is doing well, baseball is struggling but has a new coach. Field hockey and track continue to do well, but aren't revenue generating.

Same here. He was a good person, and was kind enough to remember names and always said hi. He was also happy to sit and chat about Lowell. I wish him the best in his future endeavors.

I'm not so sold on him being a positive but I'm not in the strong negative camp either. I know I came over xmas break but I did see signs of issues in general operations in the hockey program.

I do have to imagine if Marty Meehan was to try to micromanage it would be on this issue

He has 2 years left on the extension he signed before the 21-22 season. I can't see the University paying him and a new coach for 2 more seasons.

Was anyone listening to the end of the broadcast Saturday night? In the post-game interview, Norm's frustration from the season finally boiled over, and he dropped an f-bomb while complaining about the refs.

That'll probably cost him some money.
