UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

Otsman played the whole time because although an expedition they thought it was important to win that game.

OK so let's go with that. You want to build your starting goalie's confidence, you're two periods in, and he's pitching a 1-0 shutout. Sounds like you've given him a strong foundation on which to build for the games that count, no?

Instead, you leave him in for the duration, during which he manages to give up a two (2) goal lead late in the game, and "wins" largely because a poorly coached opponent's defensemen forgot how to avoid 2-on-0 breakaways?!?

You guys know I'm a huge fan of Barr, and I'm p.o.'ed that UNH didn't beat UMaine to hiring him, due to the idiot former UNH AD unjustifiably giving his paisan an extension he didn't deserve. That hasn't changed, not one iota.

But unless one OR both of Ostman's back-ups were injured/ineligible, not playing at least one of 'em made no sense.

I'm frankly blown away that any UMaine-iac would use the word "important" in connection with an exhibition.

I can only imagine the discussion/drama on here if Ostman got hurt in the 3rd period ...

Meh, give the starting goalie all the time he can get in net before the beginning of the season. No offense but who gives a rats arse how much time a backup goalie gets in a real iive game at this point of the season. You want your number 1 guy as sharp as possible, phk the backup dude. Thats what practices are for. I could possibly see it if you had a 1A and 1B goalie where you were trying to decide but Ostman's the man. Ride that pony

With how tough the schedule gets after RPI this week its that much more important to get Ostman locked in early for Maine to maximize any points we can take from this stretch.

Don't think we'll see much of Boija/Andro early on at all outside of maybe some mop-up duty if Ostman's struggles against BU continue.

Unfortunately the NCAA's ruling on Berzins hurt Maine...not to say he would have been the answer to the backup tending but finding out late on a suspension then having it recinded just plan hurt Maine's plans in net going forward this year and next, but that's hockey and they need to roll with the punch....

Berzins is off to a nice start for Madison too... 2 GA and a .973% in his first 2 starts of the season (including 45/46 in a win on Saturday).

Glad he's coming next year but yeah the NCAA screwed this one big time. Hope Ostman can find his inner 94/95 Blair Allison and be the workhorse.

Compared to most years it looks like we will see good crowds this year. Most seats available tomorrow are far back. Friday looks mostly packed. Excited for a new season. I'm also hearing rumblings about a Duda decision very soon but nobody has a clue how the NCAA will side since they make up their own rules anyway.

"10/11/2023 | Alfond Fund Orono, Maine - Maine Athletics concluded a record fundraising year. The department raised $12,482,469 in gifts and pledges during the 2023 fiscal year, which ran from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023."

Be curious if this helped move the hockey player facilities project closer to getting done.

Game day prediction. Instead of being at the Alfond tonight I’ll be getting my eardrums shattered when “announcer you know who” screams every time Bradly even attempts a one timer….lol.
I guess that falls under it’s a good problem.

Turn down your hearing aid old man

I certainly hope someone along the way has told or asked him to tone it down. It can be incredibly annoying though.

He actually does a good job overall, knowledgeable, just tends to get overly loud, almost a shriek, on just SOGs. That #1 line might lead to laryngitis…
