Well, got that obstacle out of the way. Now on to BU. I actually like this matchup. Skill vs. skill. Up and down the ice and may the most creative and hardworking team with excellent goaltending win. Oh and I think UNH ought to reup their rink back to the Olympic sheet. :=) They were more fun to watch when they played an uptempo skating game vs the slug it out, in your face style they seem to have adopted.;-)

Don't rule it out ... after all, if the rumors prove true and MS7 somehow parlays a slightly-above-mediocre season into a new deal, he's gonna be in need of a raft of new excuses by the time the next extension rolls around. This is one cat ('Cat?) who seems to have somehow been allotted way more than the usual nine lives.

I think the best team far and away after ‘06 was ‘07(when Bishop was healthy.) After that I would probably pick the ‘11 and ‘12 teams. I would put this year’s team on par with the ‘20 team and ahead of the ‘10 team that reached the hockey east final. It would be interesting in a couple years once he has had some time to reflect to ask Poisson which team he thinks was better between this year and his freshman year.

One thing you have to factor in when you compare this year’s team to older teams is that they played much more difficult schedules so just looking at record isn’t an apples to apples comparison.

This team is better than '20. Swayman was obviously incredible, and Fossier and Tralmaks (probably my two favorite players from when I was a student) were both great, but between the advantages '24 has in forward depth and the entire defense in general, makes it no contest for me.

The '18-'19 team were huge underachievers, in my opinion. They still had Keeper and Pearson on the team and the roster in general I thought was far better on paper than they actually ended up performing.

10000% Souza should be let go. Is this the pinnacle for UNH? Losing in the Quarters 5-0? It's time for new blood in Durham. Does he need another 8 years to turn things around?

I feel oddly confident about going up against the Terriers five days from now. I have been on record saying how I think the team has a mental block about playing them, and while I still think thats true, I think it primarily applied to Victor Ostman. With Boija in the net I think maybe we see a different team take them on. After all, his first collegiate appearance was at Agganis, and he almost backstopped a big comeback in the Saturday game. Should be a great contest regardless, excited and interested to see how much blue is in the stands at the Garden.

I’ve been around Maine hockey since Alfond was built, became a fanatic when Walshy came to town, there are quite a few of us on here with similar backgrounds. I understand giving Chuck a hard time, he can give it and he can take it. He has proven that over the years. But being obnoxious is something I’d expect from the BC pinheads not Maine fans on here. I think you guys are more excited about giving Chuck a hard time than you are Maine winning a game to go to Boston.?

Personally I want to thank Chuck and company for Whiting out the Whitt in 99, 02 and again in 24. Gave the team some extra incentive when the games meant moving on. ; )

How about the game Boija had, pretty freakin good for a Freshman. We were worried about Goaltending next season, not so worried any more. He got tested in the 1st, couple nice plays by uhn to get in close and he stoned them. The shot that clanked the post, he got the tip of his glove on that I believe? After the 1st the puck stayed at the other end.

I know we have talked about the line changes a few games ago, brilliant move by Barr. Really got everyone to buy into offense and defense.

I'm not sure that I've ever seen Alfond louder than it was last night.....the team skating around the arena at the end of the game acknowledging the 80% of fans still in their seats and the fans cheering wildly really stands out the morning after. The love affair with Maine Hockey is back.

The only problem I have with Chuck is his politics.....otherwise he's like a black fly that buzzes around your ear but never lands.

Agreed on Boija.....the kid had confidence last night.....no way HE was going to be the reason they lost. He actually played with a bit of an edge I thought.

On to Beantown.....glad I made my train, room and ticket reservations 6 months ago.

Q: Who calls Boston "Beantown"?
A: Someone from away ;-)

To me, UNH is just another team. Not a rival in the least. To me, Maine has exactly one rival. (I know that has morphed for others)

Yeah Im the same, was thinking about this last year or so as to when did or how did unh all of sudden become the big rivalry. Not really paying attention as to why it just crept into being from the marketing end of things I suppose.
The BU rivalry unfortunately has lost much of the fun.

The Alfond will never be as loud as when Robey's shot ended the two OT thriller against Providence in 1989 but it was pretty noisy.

As for the rivalry, there really wasn't one for a lot of years. Even though we beat them for the Hockey East title in 1992, they were just another game on the schedule. The rival was Boston University. 1999 changed that. And the marketing majors. I'm sure both schools have profited nicely by promoting the Border War in the 25 years since.

Once the games go final tonight the Pairwise Predictor should go live. I think Maine is fixed in that second band. The one possible exception is if Maine sweeps the Boston schools to win Hockey East and Denver + Michigan State lose, will that be enough to flip the comparison and sneak Maine into the final 1 seed? We won't know for sure until we know who Denver faces in the LTHC semifinal.

Oh, just a word of warning if you use StubHub. The semifinals are now listed as April 22, not March 22. I have alerted them and they are efforting a correction.

This was a good find on stubhub I already got my seats in 115 but I noticed I could only find it cached in my browser and not by stubhub search.

Alfond was loud last night but could have used more students the ones who were there were amped

I can remember a series versus North Dakota with Ben Bishop in net both nights.. place was coming apart....loud would be a understatement....but happy that Alfond is back...plus a Ace in the hole for the team.

His endless fixation on one of our coaches weight was, I dont know, a**inine.
Its a real option to just not read much of what he says.
If he wants to spend all day writing words and words of pontification and insulting people on here OK then whatever.

Well, to be fair that is a big “except”…

basket of deplorables and all that

As for unh fan windbags that nobody can stand…I LIKED to read what Greg Ambrose wrote. Hated his know-it-all, condescending attitude, but at least Greg was worth reading (Greg could get an interesting point across in less that 9 paragraphs and 3300 words…Chuck’s only endearing trait is his willingness to talk politics, tell is how and why he hates Biden and loves Trump…both excellent qualities for a hockey discussion board) [roll eyes]

well at some point BU’s most hated rival became BC.

rivalries don’t work so well when it’s one-sided. And after the 99 championship game the Maine-UNH rivalry eclipsed Maine-BU in a lot of people’s minds. Students today weren’t around for the Walsh-Parker antics and they definitely get more amped up when UNH comes to town.

At the casino yesterday I broke even playing Blackjack, stood up and was immediately replaced by a guy wearing one of those red hats. I watched with satisfaction as he lost $1000 in 15 minutes.

Better than blowing $1000 donating to Trump’s legal fees I guess
