UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

If I recall correctly the original Barr contract was for four years with a clause that if they made the HE trip to Boston by year three there would be an automatic two year extension.
Right on schedule.
Although the recent extension kinda ignored this part.

Absolutely agree with the complete effort talk. Maine took away any chances for UNH to beat us with the quick counters they used to perfection down in Durham. Didn't even let them breathe tonight.

If Maine can avoid immolating themselves with penalties like they did against BU earlier this season no reason to think the team thst showed up tonight cant pull the upset Friday.

Wife and I grabbed tickets for both days so we'll see you in Boston

Apparently we are the only individuals that remember this is a rivalry.
I’ve been around Maine hockey since Alfond was built, became a fanatic when Walshy came to town, there are quite a few of us on here with similar backgrounds. I understand giving Chuck a hard time, he can give it and he can take it. He has proven that over the years. But being obnoxious is something I’d expect from the BC pinheads not Maine fans on here. I think you guys are more excited about giving Chuck a hard time than you are Maine winning a game to go to Boston.?

Personally I want to thank Chuck and company for Whiting out the Whitt in 99, 02 and again in 24. Gave the team some extra incentive when the games meant moving on. ; )

How about the game Boija had, pretty freakin good for a Freshman. We were worried about Goaltending next season, not so worried any more. He got tested in the 1st, couple nice plays by uhn to get in close and he stoned them. The shot that clanked the post, he got the tip of his glove on that I believe? After the 1st the puck stayed at the other end.

I know we have talked about the line changes a few games ago, brilliant move by Barr. Really got everyone to buy into offense and defense.

I had ChatGPT put together a wonderful poem to thank them. It really is the thought that counts, I’m told.

Great game. Tickets for Friday as well. The blue should standout against the reds.

If Barr wins 2 more games this season, clearly best year since 05-06. Win 3 more, best year since 03-04??

I think the best team far and away after ‘06 was ‘07(when Bishop was healthy.) After that I would probably pick the ‘11 and ‘12 teams. I would put this year’s team on par with the ‘20 team and ahead of the ‘10 team that reached the hockey east final. It would be interesting in a couple years once he has had some time to reflect to ask Poisson which team he thinks was better between this year and his freshman year.

One thing you have to factor in when you compare this year’s team to older teams is that they played much more difficult schedules so just looking at record isn’t an apples to apples comparison.

Idk, this is the best Hockey East may have ever been top to bottom which throws a lot of the strength of schedule arguments out the window.

This team obviously didn’t have the early western trips of old but conference wise this schedule was pretty nuts.

Imo, it’s the best since 11-12, with the potential to eclipse them with one win the ncaa’s. As much love as I have for the ‘20 team, it was a one man army. Top line was pretty solid but fell off a cliff after that.

To me, UNH is just another team. Not a rival in the least. To me, Maine has exactly one rival. (I know that has morphed for others)

As for unh fan windbags that nobody can stand…I LIKED to read what Greg Ambrose wrote. Hated his know-it-all, condescending attitude, but at least Greg was worth reading (Greg could get an interesting point across in less that 9 paragraphs and 3300 words…Chuck’s only endearing trait is his willingness to talk politics, tell is how and why he hates Biden and loves Trump…both excellent qualities for a hockey discussion board) [roll eyes]

Well, got that obstacle out of the way. Now on to BU. I actually like this matchup. Skill vs. skill. Up and down the ice and may the most creative and hardworking team with excellent goaltending win. Oh and I think UNH ought to reup their rink back to the Olympic sheet. :=) They were more fun to watch when they played an uptempo skating game vs the slug it out, in your face style they seem to have adopted.;-)

Good to know, I'll file that down. Before fading out entirely to focus on the upcoming MS7 decision, maybe some of you kind folks would give my regards to your gutless "deep thinking" hosts at the NCAA's week after next, OK ...

Some of us were Maine fans when you were still in diapers. lots of us have also had our own obnoxious moments — I almost got arrested for disorderly conduct by Orono PD after Maine beat UNH 7-2 in St Paul in 2002.

You know what Bass, I stepped over the line last night on my comment to you I apologize.

walrus I actually don't mind Chuck lol
