I don't think you'll see any Coaching change, especially with a NEW AD coming in. Hard to say if a extension will be added to his last year from his last extension. Myself I would make him earn it and no extension, BUT as many have said that would also damage recent and upcoming recruiting...dam if you do and dam of you don't.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

Dennehy struck me as a guy who always got the most out of his players, and he always recruited and was able to put together a solid defense. What would you guys think about him coming to Maine?

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

I think an extension is already done, the school just hasn't announced it. The basketball coaching situation was done last month but wasn't announced until absolutely necessary. The same might be true here. Get it all out of the way before the AD heads to Denver.

Leaman gave you guys some props in his tweet this morning "young program on the rise with a great staff". Good stuff in place for Maine next season.

Yup, PC sure would like a RG and company behind the bench next year. A good word cant hurt in that regard.

Hes 100 games under .500 which I guess includes Fairfield so call it 75. I think hes better than Red but by how much? Went to the Garden what twice in 14 years? 3 times?

Merrimacks resources are worse than Maines so maybe hes a guy that wouldnt **** and moan about disadvantages. That I would like.

I always liked Dennehy, too. Seemed to get the most out of his team. He has a facility that I think makes it tough for him to recruit high caliber student athletes. I would take him over Gendron. I think he had at least two or more years left on his contract?

If this is etched in stone then they should just come out and announce it, maybe they are waiting till the season is done...which in that case the season ended last night. Most likely we will know sooner then later {imo}.

Reading about Dennehy in the College Hockey News...out after 13 season's.....bet that Merrimack goes looking towards Cam Ellsworth from UMass-Lowell...plus others but Ellsworth will get a job in Div.1 Hockey in the next year or two. Wonder if Ben Guite could get a chance at a interview..? Just a thought about Guite.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

OMG, They aren't changing the coach at Maine. That said, I agree MD did a pretty good job all things considered meaning that essentially MC is a DIV 2 school playing DIV one hockey. However, if you look back all of MC's glorious existence in the sport occurred in DIV2 and as and independent, finally joining HE in 1989. Since then in 29 years they have had only 2 or 3 good (winning) seasons, it should also be noted that the 2 kids at MC who made Merrimack a contender in 2011 DeCosta and Cannatna were amazing finds and steals and were recruited by MD, that said he has had only 2 wining seasons as a head coach and was an utter failure at Fairfield!

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

The question isn’t as much “do you think he will?” as it is “would you want him to?”

No thanks. Not that he is a bad coach but I don't think he is good enough to warrant the disruption. Maine is headed in the right direction and we all need to be patient.

Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

Dennehy isn't going to coach at Maine

I think most of us know that. Just discussion about Dennehy if Gendron were to go. As ticapnews says he may already have an extension and if he doesn't he will. The extension will be at least one year and perhaps more.
