Re: UMaine Black Bears 2017/18, Red dawn

I was at the game, the 16 shots number sounded low to me. They still didn’t get enough pucks on the net by any means, but it was more than 16.

Probably they weren't counting the shots that went wide and rang around and out of the zone to kick start the opposition's transition game. I can see how those kind of helpers can be confusing for a statistician.

What is Leaman going to say? "Maine sucks. We've beaten them 14 times in a row and haven't lost to them since Michelle Bachmann was the GOP favorite to beat Barack Obama. We'll keep beating them long after this administration leaves DC. I can coach circles around Red and their recruiting classes for the next few years are middle of the pack at best. I'm more concerned with UConn or UMass."

You say that but the last three games were all decided by one goal and you can make a case in two of them Providence was a bit lucky to win. Providence is clearly better right now but the difference between the two programs has shrunk considerably from where it was a few years ago.

Well sorry I brought it up...your history with PC sounds like UNH's most recent past with BC...in the 5 years I've followed UNH I've only seen them tie them...Anyway I get your frustrations and hope better times are coming for both teams!!!

Yes. We are only 3 pairs of defensemen away now.

Sorry if it came off that my criticism was aimed at you in any way. It wasn't.

Ref, its cool, maine fans are POed that Red hasnt moved this team very far along if any. Everyone keeps saying wait till next year. The goaltending is better so Maine won some games against **** teams, beat no one of consequence. The team lacks the discipline to stay out of the box, to play a system or compete for a whole game. Most of us watched Shawns teams do to others what others are doing to us. Most of the long time fans on here have given up . Just a few of us suckers left. We must be idiots to continue getting our hopes up. ;)

It was a general statement that "ALL" Coaches tip toe and "NEVER/EVER" will they speak badly of a Coach/Player/Team....and NOT that they should but we always hear as I said: The same old/same old...period...no attack on anyone...again..period. Move on...I will 4-sure.

If I count correctly... if looking at the last ten games of every season under Red, Maine has won 12 of 50 games.

This was the best season under Red, and it still sucks.

You went from being this thread’s biggest optimist to someone who wants Red’s head on a pike in less than 24 hours, what happened?

I am a sore loser.

BTW, it wasn't just last 24 hours.

For me it started with losing to Merrimack in OT. Then the BC series cemented it. I have no faith in Red anymore. This is his best season and it is not good enough.

Yeah, pc isn't as good.

Bottom line in this recent series is Goaltending/Penalty's...Maine's Swayman did not have the series expected of him and that is no slam on him as he is a big reason for Maine having a winning season, he has the confidence and skill to learn from this season and series versus Providence...Hayden Hawkey came up big when needed, he made several big saves that could have turned game 1 into a win for Maine. AND penalty's did Maine in again...no matter how you look at it, the better team won the series.

I think its a case of the sum of the parts being less than the individual pieces. I actually like a lot of the guys individually but they weren't great as a group. Hopefully experience helps and having another good lefty should make a difference. It's kind of odd Red has had such a hard time recruiting good lefty dmen. He's found three good righties, which are usually harder to find, and only one good lefty.

Oh hey no problem like I said your frustrations are very similar to UNH's...and in some ways I'm glad I didn't experience the glory days; makes it all the harder now! Here's looking to better days ahead...
