Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

The play by play guy was Mike Logan(Northeastern) and the color guy was Craig Janney(BC). Don't you guys know anything about New England hockey?

Thought Ciocco was fair last night in the studio and Janney was good as well, UNH was playing the perfect road game. They looked more like a Maine team in the way they cycled and kept pucks in deep to stay away from our transition game, normally it is the other way around. However also thought Maine bounced back after a lackluster 1st period and forced play more in the second and third. Maine will need to be better in the temp department and in the offensive zone next weekend, but can't complain too much about the defense yesterday.

As for Logan at one point he said he went to school "up here" which I assumed was at Maine, maybe he was referring to High School?

I think he was at UMaine for 1 or 2 years as a grad student? Perhaps I am confusing him with someone else.

Found this in a hockey blog: "....attended the University of Maine for two years before transferring to Northeastern where he earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism"

Yeah I think it was a game that was well played by both teams. I was a bit surprised UNH kept Maine off the board on your 2 PP's because you guys have such a good PP but UNH has a good PK.

I know Logan is a Norhteastern guy but not sure where he went to high school. He does a good job IMO.

Good luck vs. the Mack. It'll probably go three games I would guess.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

I wasn't impressed with the way UNH came right out and controlled the game. Last game of the reg season, on home ice, knowing that you can clinch home ice in the quarters with a win . . . and they just let the Wildcats impose their will.

The 2nd may not have been quite the same level of garbage, but it wasn't until the 3rd when I saw playoff worthy hockey from Maine. I still think even an average UNH team wins that game handily. Thankfully, they're not close. And it still took a lot of luck.

Diamond seemed like the only first liner who was really working. Of course, he was mostly working on embellishing, so he only gets partial credit.

Maine should be so fortunate to have playoff opponents make Sullivan look as good as UNH made him look.

The one positive I take from yesterday was Maine's first PK, which was actually pretty good. More of that, please. :)

Am I the only one who didn't think the game looked so bad? Their effort wasn't the best I've seen all year but it was certainly better than over half the games I've seen this season...

Meh, you like to see perfection but seldom get it with Timmay coached teams. The end result was satisfactory, that is all I can say. Thought Sully looks confident which is very good this time of the year and was suitably impressed with Pryor...indications of why he wuz so hightly touted. I dont recall seeing any blatant Maine D turnovers...did anyone else?

One of their worst offensively but right up there defensively....and I think since they've been good offensively and so poor on D most of the way, the take-away for me is that they're capable of winning a 1-0 or 2-1 hockey game if they play well. That's nice to know.

HE online has the NESN game at 4 on Saturday

Actually, the Hockey East site has the PC/ML game at 4PM on Sunday. Every Saturday game is listed as 7PM. The NESN game will be scheduled for 4PM Saturday, but hasn't been announced yet. I did tell Jamison and Josh to just leave the trucks at Alfond for next week's game but even they weren't sure which game they were broadcasting.:p

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Right, but they don't say what game they have on Saturday, and the schedule doesn't reflect it. The time has changed for the Sunday game at Lowell, but no other game - not even the NBC game on Friday. Logic says they will do the UML game Saturday too, but it isn't that far for the production crew to go from either Boston arena to Lowell. Certainly nothing compared to the Orono to Hyannisport trek they did last night.

How is the defense full of leaks with a shut out? Sorry, I don't know how they can do better.
I saw lots of good hits last night...maybe your view was obstructed?

Lowell will not play Saturday as there schedule is thurs, fri and (if needed) Sun. My guess is BU vs. UNH will get the nod.

Do you remember a few years ago, when Maine had defense and goaltending, but didn't have any finishers on offense? I remember lots of games where Maine outworked and outplayed their opponent, but it seemed like they ran into Ryan Miller every night. That wasn't bad luck. It wasn't a case of every goalie Maine faced playing the game of his season. Maine made a lot of goalies look good back then. UNH made Sullivan and the Maine D look good.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice that they can win the fugly ones, and a shutout, whatever the circumstances, can only be good for Sullivan's confidence. And it's always better to win ugly than to lose pretty. That said, UNH generated plenty of chances, including a few jaw-droppers. There were plenty of times when UNH bailed Maine out by just failing to execute. Again, I'm sure Maine'll take it, but you don't want to count on it.
