Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

not a pairwise guru, but maine is still very vulnerable.... NU, UNH, and UMass could all fall out as TUC with bad results either today or through a combination of today and the quarters....
Maine could lose 6-3-1 from TUC record. That would be a killer. I posted a breakdown on the bracketology thread. They need to win today and get to Boston to be safe. Preferably they win the next 9 in a row...

Too many folks obsessing over the pairwise. Worry about winning today, then the first round series. Don't start worrying about PWR till the season is in danger of ending, and we arn't there yet. Much will change in the PWR over the next 9 days. Just win baby.

That's what I've been saying too! Can only control the games they play so go out and win and everything else will take care of itself!

Is there anyway to stream the game?

Home Ice. That helps. Great win by Sullivan.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Yep. That was the type of game that they would have lost 2-1 in previous years. The emergence of Sullivan is still the biggest reason we are now a contender. Win 2 games next weekend against an offensively challenged team and we are in! All's I want is the chance to watch an NCAA game for the first time in 5 yrs.

So, is there any chance WABI picks up the games next weekend? They did 2 yrs ago vs Lowell. That was a fun series to watch.

Ugly game for Maine but a win is a win. I swear they've never heard"move your feet" before. Stand there and watch. How UNH is 6th in HE is beyond me, their forwards can pass the freakin puck, tape to tape all night long. They controlled the play for the first 30 minutes without a doubt. Sully was the man but UNH missed open nets many many times. When Reemer jr got that penalty in the 2nd, you could see him light up when he realized he had Joey against the boards, funny as heck, he went ballistic the instant he knew.
Now take care of Merrimack

Ugly or not it's a win. A win that Maine might not have gotten the past couple years. Goaltending, goaltending, goaltending. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see UNH at the Gahdin. Take care of biz next weekend and I'll be at the Gahdin too!

Hate to criticize such a gifted player but Flynn needs to keep two hands on his stick while reaching and poke checking. He's too easily dislodged from the puck. In any case, nice to see at least one of NESN's talking heads picked him as Hoc East player of the year. Correct assesment that he does more of all the little things and is a tops, plus 20 on the year. He prob does have a more complete skill set than Abbott.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

There was certainly some luck involved, but I thought Maine carried the play by a narrow margin after the 1st. Sully made a couple of great saves, all the routine ones, and was the beneficiary of UNH missing the net several times... He was definitely my First Star tonight, without question.

Timmy let the dogs out after the 1st, IMO. I'd like to see 60 minutes of that next weekend.

NESN is carrying the 2nd game next weekend.....

That NESN color-guy really hates Maine. He wouldn't give the Bears credit for anything, and he grew increasingly sullen as the game wore down...Hope he does the MC series, too. :p

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

I wasn't going to go to the QF games but I just can't help myself:D

Other than scoring I don't see why folks are all over Spence and not Flynn. Flynn does so many little thing if you watch closely. Spence is good at the opposing teams end of the ice but in his zone, not so much. Flynn will hit guys and keep his legs moving playing D. Flynn had several opportunities for Grade As last night and the puck bounced or he wasn't able to get a stick on them.
Once again Joey was in the opposing teams head, they hate him:D I so wanted him to drop the gloves with #5 from UNH, I'd bet any money he'd drop that guy like a dirty pair of underwear.
Once again too much east west movement from the breakout, start to come out and then retreat. UNH didn't forecheck that hard either.

That guys an ex UHN player...ciocco think his name is. Very biased against Maine to the point of being embarassing. Hes one step down from Brenden Walsh who was the worst I ever saw. :D

Gonna be a war with MC. Hope the boyz bring guns and not peashooters to the battle.

Josh does a great job IMHO, thank you very much.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

This game was a defensive battle all the way, kept waiting for the tying goal. Having the game on television changes the flow of the game, I think. Hansen and Fryer let some holding go uncalled. I think that led to the Knodel - Diamond skirmish. Diamond is such a competitor, he really wanted to take on Knodel and kept telling him that as he was being separated by the official. Penalties were even at around 8. Nick Pryor deserves some credit as he passed the puck to O'Connor for the winning goal. Stayed and listened to the seniors address the fans, nicely done. I think Abbott (or was it O'Neill), was going for the record held by Doyle for minutes holding the microphone.;) Can't wait for Merrimack at the Alfond this weekend.

The play by play guy was Mike Logan(Northeastern) and the color guy was Craig Janney(BC). Don't you guys know anything about New England hockey?
