UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

To be honest, at this point I'm more concerned with staying ahead of UND. If SCSU goes 5-1 to end the year (very attainable for them), MN will have to go 7-0-1 to win the conference. That's asking a lot.
MN is certainly capable of winning out, but we all know college hockey can be pretty unpredictable. I always expect Bemidji and Duluth to play a bit above their caliber in games against the Gophers. And with the series being in Bemidji, as the last home games of the year for the Beavers, that's not going to be an easy series. Throw in DU and a much improved UW and it's going to be tough.

Next weekend could do a lot to convince me to stop checking the rearview mirror. If MN can take 3 pts from the Badgers and DU can earn a split with UND I think the Gophers will be in good shape to stay in the top-2.

CORRECTION - If SCSU goes 5-1 and MN 7-0-1 that would only tie the teams. MN would have to go 8-0 to win outright.
DOUBLE CORRECTION - The DU/UND series is in 2 weeks. So I'll have a little while to wait to shake this angst.

Really it's great to know those thoughts were honest.

Confusing? Yes, along with the corrections. Enjoy The Arrogance one day followed by The Math Calculation Hope and a Prayer the next.

All the pressure is on the goofers.

Escape to Wisconsin and have fun next weekend on crappy ice in Chicago.

Another great post by you. Where were you Friday night? Your team splits the weekend and you act like it's a national championship.

I don't understand how all the pressure is on the Gophers...the smart posters from your school recognize that the race is still very much alive between a bunch of teams. I'd say the pressure is largely on the Huskies. They're the ones that can't start losing games. At CC, a team that just took 3 from Denver. At Wisconsin, a team that's been pretty hot. Might want to check out the standings and that math before you brag too much, your stupid is showing.

You have to travel to Wisconsin too, you think that's going to be easy for you?
You have to face UMD, yet another MN team who will get up for you and you have to face Denver, a team that has not been swept in WCHA play by anyone not named SCSU in 5 years.
So CC took 3 from Denver, a rival that they get up for.
That means what exactly for us?
We beat DU 3 of 4, have already swept CC and let's not forget that CC plays a style that fits well with what we want to do.
Yes we have pressure and he's an idiot for saying we don't but we also have a nice lead and if we do what we are capable, we will keep that lead.
BTW...nice prediction yet again.

Well I have moved on to the BADger series. We will see you next year for the one game rivalry game at Mariucci.

Maybe it's just me, but, show of hands:

How many Gopher fans really care about winning the MacNaughton Cup?

I can understand SCSU's desire for it given their lame D1 existence.

But I'd like to think that, given this years team and last years post season run the only trophy that should concern the Gophers and their fans is the national championship one.

The other two are merely window dressing.

Am I wrong?

I want to win everything. ;)

So if our positions in the standings were reversed you wouldn't care about the MacNaughton?
Yeah right.
Besides, we'll start with the MacNaughton and work from there.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

The cup is a nice prize, but not the goal. Everyone knows all the regular season is for is to find out where you're gonna dance. I don't even have goals until the tournaments start.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

The Cup would be huge if

A. We had never won it
B. It was a weak conference that should be easy to win

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Who cares if you get a trophy for being the best team in the conference, and then as a result get the easiest path to the second trophy of the season, the Broadmoor? Can't see why anyone would care about that, especially since winning the MacNaughton and the NCAA title are mutually exclusive.
