Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

This series is important because of the positioning of the two teams. If that was Wisconsin 5 points back of us it'd be just as big of a deal. Gopher fans thinking otherwise are suffering from delusions of grandeur.

That's different from normal how?
I think this team is taking on the demeanor of their captains.
None of them get too high or too low, very even keel and just go about our business and get it done.
Looking forward to this weekend.
Ear plugs will likely be needed.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Gophers are one point back if you factor in games in hand, so not sure how you figure a sweep is absolutely necessary.

WE didn't say it was a must win series for the Gophers. Stauber (so, a Gopher fan) said it was. We still have trips to CC (a dejected an angry squad) and UW (playing much better) so we could potentially split or worse in either of those series, and then MTU wants to get a win in in St. Cloud before we leave the league insanely bad and Mel will have them playing those games at their best. If either team gets swept I think their McNaughton chances are slim to none, but any other outcome keeps both alive and the most likely, a split, keeps both VERY alive. With the Gophers playing as well as they have been, I'm happy with a split and keeping a 5 point lead and (for the moment) the tiebreaker.

You misspelled GOPHERS and HUSKIES. Saint Cloud State education everyone...(apologies to my SCSU friends).
If you hadn't noticed, he always spells Huskies like that. And yeah, I'm sure that's the first time you've heard them referred to as Goofers. (Brent, s o h, Koho... enjoy this one, he's a gem :D )

Sweet. One less SCSU fan on here. tArrogance claims another victory!
I have a feeling we're better off without him/her.

I think we have just as good a chance of getting to Pittsburgh as you. Current brackets have us playing Niagara and then Quinnipiac or Notre Dame. The Gophers would play UMass-Lowell, then Western Michigan or Denver. We have at least split with every team we have played except for the first series of the year at UNH, and a terrible series against Northern Michigan. The NMU series was a turning point in the season I think.

The only teams that I would like to avoid in the brackets are BC, UNH, and Minnesota. Other than that, I would favor us against any team.

Well luckily after this weekend you won't fear MN anymore.

And I disagree on UNH... we played them really tough the first two games of the season with no warmup games in their building. We didn't play well at all and yet we were in those games. I'd love a rematch, say for a birth to the Frozen Four?

Honestly, the team I fear.... Niagra. Please oh please hockey gods.... WHATEVER you do, don't give us a game against Niagra!

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Yes, a Husky fan did say that. The very same guy I quoted and was replying to initially.

I assumed Husckey came in saying that and mocking Stauber... but now I'm not sure

That's right. Pressure is on the goofers. Boy you told him.

Speaking of SCSU Euro, you're concerned about Niagra? Really?

If SCSU makes the NCAA tourney, the team I don't want to be seeded into the same Regional is The Q.

No... I am not scared of Niagra.

Who said anything about fear? I said I would like to avoid those teams, not that I don't think we could beat them. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want the easiest path possible. They don't award style points.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Seeing as St. Cloud is not a rival for the U of M, maybe the Hukskies will sweep after all.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Asks the guy who started the Friday CC-UAA scoring thread.

I was helping people know what's going on the game, dick.

I like to see rivals tie and and not win. :D

So the Gophers and St. Cloud are the same on the Duluth rivalry scale. Huh... wouldn't have thought you would have admitted that, but good to know.

I'll just let you believe that...

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Looking forward to the games. I thought before the season that SCSU would be here at the end (hey, finally a prediction worth a ****) and now the Gophers have to play both on the road against a team that I suspect would really like a conference title. Jan vs. Marcia references not needed here. MN needs to play as good of hockey as they've played all season imho if they at worst plan to split and fans of both teams should really be looking forward to this challenge. Possibly the most anticipated series between these teams since before Motzko took over.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

That's a couple of hilarious two-faced, talk out of by sides of your mouth thoughts.

Goofers must sweep this upcoming weekend at the NHEC in St. Cloud if they want to win the conference. Anything less and they won't catch SCSU.

Ha, well like I said, I think there is plenty of pressure to go around this weekend. Considering St. Cloud can maintain control if they can just split, the games are at home and St. Cloud has in its 25 years of Div 1 status exactly 1 banner that doesn't say "thanks for playing", I feel like there is going to be a bit more pressure on them this weekend.

But it's a slightly ridiculous debate to have (who is under more pressure) and one I don't really care to spend any more of my time on.
I was responding to the post that said all the pressure is on MN. I don't think that's the case at all.

I also think 3 pts will keep MN very much in the hunt for the MacNaughton. Anything less and it would be pretty unlikely for them to repeat.

If one team loses Friday, they will definitely be feeling the pressure Saturday.
