UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

How do you figure? We're the home team. Both teams will take a split, but the Gophers REALLY will on the road.

I don't think a split is good enough if MN wants to win the MacNaughton.

That being said, I would maintain that the pressure is still on the Huskies (although MN is still under a significant amount of pressure).
The title is St. Cloud's to lose right now. A split should be good enough to keep them in control.
And SCSU hasn't won **** in their 25 years of Div. 1 status (well, there was that one WCHA Tournament).

Then again, we all know how this SCSU club has handled pressure historically (see: the NCAA Tournament, 1988-2009).

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Go protest the Sioux nickname, while you continue to hold up the White Cloud rep/nickname.

Yeah, sh* just got real. :D

/love that red button

Will a banner be hung if Jan gets 1pt this weekend or will it take 2 pts, inquiring minds want to know.

Strange...this is the first i've heard of it.

SCSU is the 2nd scoring team in WCHA action and 1st defensively. In St. Cloud? Yeah, the Gophers will be plenty pleased with a split. You're only 5 points down and if you sweep the extra series you're down by a point and the tiebreaker is still up in the air.

And making the argument that SCSU is gonna choke because other teams have done that is stupid. What do all those teams have to do with 18-22 year old guys that weren't on the team? Just as our guys haven't choked, the guy on your team haven't won an NC.

If we take 3 points we will probably have the MacNaughton wrapped up, so I would say 3.

No... Taking 3 would really do a nice job of taking the Gophers out of it, but UNO would still be very alive, especially if they sweep

Calm down, Piper.
A split is likely, and all things being equal isn't bad. But if MN wants to win the MacNaughton, they need to be eyeing more than 2 pts.
If you read any of my other posts, you'll see I don't expect SCSU to choke down the stretch. It's just a lingering hope should MN fail to earn 3 pts this weekend.

You'll be hard pressed to find any one who is involved with or a fan of the Gopher's who would be "plenty pleased" with a split this weekend. I don't often make predictions, and I won't this week. ANY result wouldn't surprise me. But I'm coming into this next series with the hope that MN can take the majority of points, and I won't be happy with anything less.

It should be a hell of a series...

EDIT: And I would still say there is more pressure on SCSU this weekend than MN, although there is plenty of pressure to go around.

Well considering I am quite calm....

I disagree. I think if you guys split you're very much alive for the McNaughton.

Alive? Yes. But not sitting well in the least.
Take a look at the remaining schedule and get back to me.

But that was never the claim/dispute to begin with.

And to expound on a previous point...Motzko's tenure has been characterized by inconsistency. So while expecting the players to reenact the past may be stupid, recognizing that the one in charge has been plagued by such inconsistencies may not be as stupid as you would like to think.

The Huskies have shown themselves to be a consistently stellar team over the past month, so it would be foolish to count on them to fall apart down the stretch. But excuse me if I hold out greater hope of it than for a team like UND that has routinely surged at the end of the season under their coaching staff.

The Gophers playing against the #1 team in February?

This is like their National Championship.

Truthfully, I think SCSU won the MacNaughton tonight. I'll happily eat crow if I am wrong, but if SCSU even gets one point from Minnesota I think it's over. I have that series being a split here. Here's how I see each team finishing out:

SCSU: 5-2-1 (40 points)
Minnesota 7-3-0 (38 points)
UNO 5-3-0 (36 points)
DU 5-3-0 (34 points)
ND 5-3-0 (34 points)

This scenario would have SCSU winning it even if they lost the game I have as a tie above. Minnesota sweeps SCSU and we have a different ball game, though. I think UNO played themselves out of the picture tonight. They would have to go 7-1-0 the rest of the way, I think, and I don't have any real faith they can do that. Not with Faulkner in goal. Or with our sketchy defense. I think Denver or North Dakota have to pretty much win out to get there, as well.

Minnesota or SCSU. More likely SCSU, and UNO only if they get really hot or something odd happens.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Split weekend. SCSU Friday, UM Saturday.

Now you may continue with the really horrible 70's show TV reference.

That's a couple of hilarious two-faced, talk out of by sides of your mouth thoughts.

Goofers must sweep this upcoming weekend at the NHEC in St. Cloud if they want to win the conference. Anything less and they won't catch SCSU.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

I continue my curiosity of the banner argument. We have one completely legitimate banner (WCHA playoff championship) and the participation banner, which I would say the majority of teams in the country have, including some of the most successful (Boston College). There are many teams with a lot of more sketchy banners in their rafters.

Gophers are one point back if you factor in games in hand, so not sure how you figure a sweep is absolutely necessary.
