UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

I was just trying to point out the absurdity of the stereotype. I'm sure there are people from St. Joe that wear snowmobile jackets and others that have never ridden a snowmobile/owned a snowmobile jacket in their life. Same with St. Cloud, Duluth, Minneapolis, Apple Valley, Eagan, Mankato, Grand Forks, et al.

It is a stereotype for sure, but I find it hilarious mostly because it's pretty true. Going to high school in Saint Cloud, TONS of people had them and still to this day a lot of people have them on. I went to Powder Ridge last night and the number of people wearing jeans and snowmobile jackets was through the roof.

I know exactly who your are talking about haha they are awesome!

Pretty sure one is who Boomer refers to as Colorful Ken....

I sat right next to these guys all last year. I thought they were funny. They annoyed my wife.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

I almost wish I was sitting near the Dawg Pound this week just so I could hear the two old guys next to it chirp at the student section. They must have season tickets as they're always there when I've gone. Anyone know who I'm talking about?

That would be Kolorful Ken and his friend Tom.

They certainly are colorful and I can see how they'd annoy people. Personally they're one of the highlights of attending the games. That and the Famous Dave's nachos of course.

Oh really? I thought everyone from St. Cloud exclusively wore snowmobile jackets.

I thought it was only SCSU fans?

So is it St. Cloud locals (like yourself) or SCSU fans? Let's at least have some consistency with the bit.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

This may sound like a sarcastic question, but it really isn't. What kind of expectations do you Husky fans have for your team this year? Conference champs? Frozen Four? NCAA title? I'm just curious and would like to know.

Its hard to say you EXPECT anything, but let's put it this way..... if we get neither a conference championship (our last chance at it) nor a Frozen Four, I'll be disappointed. If we finish 2nd, have a good run at the Final Five (or even win it) and win one NCAA game it'll be a good year, but at the end I'll think about us missing out on a chance to do something special and a couple things we've never done before.

I have never owned a snowmobile jacket and never will

Neither have 95% of the SCSU posters. SCSU posters are typically not from St. Cloud, a majority no longer live in St. Cloud, and a good percentage are from the Cities, now live in the Cities, or both. So all those shots at St. Cloud people wearing Polaris jackets and dipping are aimed at you buddy. :D

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

I have never owned a snowmobile jacket and never will...I've never even been snowmobiling. I also grew up in Apple Valley until I was six (split time with parents) not that I claim affiliation with the city.

What's wrong with snowmobiling? I used to snowmobile all the time as a kid. I wish I could afford the time to do it now or I wish it would snow enough to make it worth it. Behind hockey, camping, hunting, skiing etc. it is one of the great Minnesota traditions. Are you sure you grew up around here? I know plenty of skiers and snowmobilers from Apple Valley too. There are trails everywhere and it is a great activity for the family to get out and see the state.

Yes, most of the snowmobilers are also ATV'rs and Motocross. I know a bunch around Millville, Elko, Brainerd or any of the ski areas (Powder Ridge, Bunker Hill etc).

This guy sounds like one of those pampered snobs who never left the house.

Snowmobile jackets are pretty expensive and they are multi use. They provide protection and comfort. Anyone who has been on the trails for more than a couple hours or races would probably think they are well worth it.
For a lot of the guys who spend ten of thousands of dollars on new machines every year the jacket is a drop in the bucket.

I remember quite a few good weekends resort/tavern hopping.

A lot of those guys you are making fun of are business owners, engineers, salesmen or others who make quite a bit of money. They snowmobile in Montana, Colorado and all over. It is a great hobby.

Nailed it. The big thing for this program is to keep making progress and take the next step forward. This is a roster that is fully capable of doing that. Not only is this a big chance for SCSU, but for the community and Hockey in Central MN. There have been some great strides with top prospects coming from the St. Cloud area. A couple of big seasons can push that even further in the right direction.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

I sat next to Kolorful Ken and Tom one series. They know their hockey and they know how to have fun. It isn't any different than sitting next to the old codgers at Mariucci except they don't know how to have fun.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Any ideas on what a good name might be for the MN Tournament?

I kind of like "North Star Cup" or "North Star Challenge Cup." Take us back to some old time hockey roots.
