Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be
I have never owned a snowmobile jacket and never will...I've never even been snowmobiling. I also grew up in Apple Valley until I was six (split time with parents) not that I claim affiliation with the city.
What's wrong with snowmobiling? I used to snowmobile all the time as a kid. I wish I could afford the time to do it now or I wish it would snow enough to make it worth it. Behind hockey, camping, hunting, skiing etc. it is one of the great Minnesota traditions. Are you sure you grew up around here? I know plenty of skiers and snowmobilers from Apple Valley too. There are trails everywhere and it is a great activity for the family to get out and see the state.
Yes, most of the snowmobilers are also ATV'rs and Motocross. I know a bunch around Millville, Elko, Brainerd or any of the ski areas (Powder Ridge, Bunker Hill etc).
This guy sounds like one of those pampered snobs who never left the house.
Snowmobile jackets are pretty expensive and they are multi use. They provide protection and comfort. Anyone who has been on the trails for more than a couple hours or races would probably think they are well worth it.
For a lot of the guys who spend ten of thousands of dollars on new machines every year the jacket is a drop in the bucket.
I remember quite a few good weekends resort/tavern hopping.
A lot of those guys you are making fun of are business owners, engineers, salesmen or others who make quite a bit of money. They snowmobile in Montana, Colorado and all over. It is a great hobby.
