UAA @ SCSU: Well Look What We Have Here....

I agree with Euro. When your PP is dipping down around 16%, it ain't working.

Right now it isn't.
For most of the conference season they were clicking around 20%.
I really think it is just a minor execution tweak and getting these guys to relax and play "on their toes" again and they will be fine.

Could be. I just feel what they do is super predictable. Their passing has to be spot on or they get picked off.

Like I said earlier, that's how Motzko runs it.
He prefers puck motion to player motion which is easy to understand since the puck can move faster than players can.
Does it require some precision?
Of course it does.
But it's not like we are lacking in the skill department.
I just don't see us blowing up the entire philosophy at this point in the season.
Some tweaks will happen sure but if you are looking for wholesale changes, you are probably going to be disappointed.

Re: UAA @ SCSU: Well Look What We Have Here....

I know it's not really the style they run, but I always like the idea of having a big body in front of the net for screens, holding defenseman off and getting rebounds. Oliver or Rabey would be perfect for that roll. It's playoff time, lets keep it simple. Get pucks on net, deflections rebounds.. ugly goals are beautiful goals in the playoffs.

Re: UAA @ SCSU: Well Look What We Have Here....

That only works if your points can get pucks to the net. We have been iffy at best at doing that. We need to consistantly utilize our wings. They sometimes crowd to close to the side of the net and take away pass options to get the puck low. They need to be more reactive to the way teams kill. If they front our points as well as Wisconsin did then get away from the side of the net and create passing options. We need to get teams to move and chase more. If teams pack it in more and give our points more freedom then attack by rolling with the puck more. Pop a couple and it is amazing how quickly confidence grows. But the time is now to find it before its too late.

They have used Dowd in front a lot this year and Morley has several rebound tap-ins on the PP.
Problem is a big body isn't enough.
If you want that person to be able to deflect pucks or bang home rebounds they need hands too, and Oliver and Rabey don't have the hands.

Re: UAA @ SCSU: Well Look What We Have Here....

For the record, I am not for an overhaul of the PP, I was just saying the argument "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't really apply in this instance

Re: UAA @ SCSU: Well Look What We Have Here....

Regarding UAA current injuries, I understand second team scorer forward Kwas is injured and inactive as well as D men Coldwell and Williams. Therefore, I assume none of these guys made the trip to St. Cloud.

If my assumption is correct and with D man Sevalrud out a game due to DQ based upon his conduct in Denver last week, does UAA play with only 5 defense men on Friday?

Motzko said on his show Monday he thought those guys were going to be back for this series, or was he talking about different players?

Edit: Hatten said in his chat that those players are listed as inactive, he took that to mean they will not be playing.

Good. Maybe SCSU running four lines with chip and chase will get the UAA D men tired by the end of the game on Friday for some goal opportunities.

Re: UAA @ SCSU: Well Look What We Have Here....

Congrats to LaBlanc on player of the year. Jenson on defensive player of the year. Brodzinski gets the shaft on not being on the all rookie team. 19 goals and only one of them on the pp. Team leading plus/minus. And a kid that plays hard at both ends of the rink. What were the voters thinking? Go Huskies!!!!!!

They are trying to use Jedi mind tricks on us with articles like that. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Have to take care of business!

I came here to do 2 things!

I think my favorite part was when they pulled Faragher to rest him.
