TV 20 - Sorry no fancy title

Now after seeing the first episode, I'm disappointed. It's gonna be a 'murder of the week' show instead of a murder mystery arc such as a show like Gracepoint or The Dublin Murders was.

I, too, was expecting a season long single murder mystery.

How many people can get themselves murdered in such a small town?

I made this same joke with my wife. Remember Murder She Wrote? That tiny Maine town had the worst murder rate in the entire world. Made Chicago look like paradise. :-) Now, it might be topped by this town where Murder in a Small Town takes place.

SNL did a sketch last night on a person named Harvey Epstein running for NY State Assembly. Sketch centered around making sure everyone knew he wasn’t related to Harvey Weinstein or Jeffrey Epstein. Mulaney played the guy and seemed like it was tailor made for him as “regular guy in bad situation.”

Turns out it’s entirely real. There is an actual person named Harvey Epstein running for NY State Assembly.

The entire show was one of the best in a while. Tim Kaine??? His appearance was outstanding. I swear I thought it was Tim Walz!! So funny. Even the musical guest didn’t annoy me. I didn’t have any thoughts about her but both performances were pretty good.

I watched the Kamala thing...I honestly just don't find any of that funny. Especially Carvey...

It just all seems so forced.

I don’t know if Carvey’s style is outdated or if how he decided to do Biden just wasn’t a good fit this time around, but his act got old the very first time he did it this season. JAJ has Trump down to a T between the voice, movements, and diction. I think Gaffigan is pretty much Walz in real life so that was a perfect casting, and Rudolph was like JAJ and could morph into Harris. Samberg’s Emhoff was okay, but I think that’s what it was supposed to be anyway. And then there’s Carvey, who just decided to hit the same three notes.

I did love the Duane Reed skit

It was a great episode. Chapelle Roan has a lovely voice wasted on dreck music. Somebody should buy her out and have her sing American Songbook. She has power and superb clarity over a decent range.

Who knew Tim Kaine was hilarious? And the Port Authority Musical (Mulaney's 6th?) was spectacular.

Carvey is just bad, but the Kamala piece was enchanting and she had perfect timing. She has a feel for comedy, which really surprised me. I turned to my wife during the bit and said "Can you imagine Hillary doing this?" and we both shivered at how cringe it would be.

Hillary did it and it was great.

Chappell Roan sang a country song about eating puzzy on national television, she’s doing just fine.

That is the thing everyone seems right for the part (well not Carvey really but whatever) but maybe the writing is just not clicking or something...I dunno. Maybe part of it is we have seen so much of this in real time really happening that it just doesn't ring the same way. Like the Trump stuff is pitch perfect, but since I watched real Trump actually basically do all of that it doesn't really seem funny so much as sad and a rather stunning indictment of him and us.

I will also say, I don't think Gaffigan does a great Walz. I think he definitely can because they are so similar...but he plays him a bit too over the top and kind of dumb. He plays him at 11 when you can play him at 8 and get bigger laughs and sound just like him.

Honestly, top to bottom I think that is what they all do and why it doesn't connect with me. I am in the minority on that which is fine. I am not really the core audience these days anyways so its all good :)

Kamala herself was great and really the only part worth watching IMHO.
