Season one was perfectly cromulent. The big reveal(s) was no shock to anyone but whatever. It was entertaining fantasy fair, even if fairly forgettable. Take the LotR label off of it and you'd be perfectly ok with it.

I'm only 2 episodes into season 2, so can't comment on it really. But seems like much of the same.

This is true..."ok with it" is about what I would be. I still wouldn't find it all that great and probably would have quit on it (it being LOTR is the only reason I continue) but I wouldn't find some of the things so maddening. And the thing is, I am not even that big of a LOTR guy...plenty of people know way more than I do so if I am nitpicking things and know things are off it is pretty glaring.

I think there were ways to do it, even with the limitations of the material they could use, that would have worked better. Honestly the war with Morgoth would have been more interesting. I get that then you don't have certain characters in, but it also means you don't have to shoehorn other characters in that make no sense. There is almost no material on that stuff it would have been a wide open to interpretation. I dunno parts of this remind me of the things Lucas said when making the prequels about how everything rhymes. They seem to want to tell the exact same story...slightly tweaked.

Episode 6 was alright...if I had seen the title of the episode it would have spoiled the ending. I already know who shows up rather soon (I mean Amazon spoiled that real quick) and would know it even if I didn't know the tale they are so obvious about it. I dont know how many seasons they plan to do but they have a lot of worldbuilding still to do before they can even really get to the crux of the story...The Rings of Power.
 
Oh Lord, Doctor Odyssey is as awful as you guys said. I only decided to record it because Pacey, but geez, this might not be worth keeping with.

Although I probably will, as I don't expect it to last for too many episodes.
 
Jet lagged in a Munich hotel. Sky Atlantic showing some fun stuff:

now, the wire just came on (totally forgot Peter Baelish in GOT is in the wire)

side note- season 2 of true detective was not great, but Colin Farrell was outstanding and the final episode actually had a better ending that first season. First season was excellent but I didn’t love the ending as much, whereas season two was opposite

I never finished season 2...but Colin Farrell was good in what I saw.

Sucks about the jet lag though...I had it real bad in Edinburgh.

The characters all kind of got perfect endings in season 2 and none of them are happy

jet lag sucks but one day left, then 7am flight so I might as well just keep this up. Delta One for flight home So I can get some sleep

mookie just watching magnum in the episode on his birthday treading water. Gets mookie every time. Such a great show.

Its dumb...and only really useful on super long flights. It is pods at the front of the plane with walls and such that act as little bedrooms so you can lay straight flat and sleep and not have to deal with other people. Would have been very nice when I went to South Africa.

My daughter and her husband used it to go to Ireland, and Australia. Two different trips.

Yeah, he was a bit doughy, but Jesus.

Now after seeing the first episode, I'm disappointed. It's gonna be a 'murder of the week' show instead of a murder mystery arc such as a show like Gracepoint or The Dublin Murders was.

How many people can get themselves murdered in such a small town?

Colin had one of the best insult lines ever after beating up the dad of the kid who bullied his son.

basically tells the kid- you ever bully anyone again, I’ll come back and fuck your father with your mothers headless corpse
