TV 19 - Simpsons Did It

Add internet to that...

With something like Comcast, a $100 bill would be $50 TV + $50 Internet.

You'd almost certainly have internet either way. I suppose you could apportion part of the cost to streaming based on fraction of usage (or marginal cost if you upgrade speeds solely due to streaming), but it's not like if you added cable you'd drop your internet service.

We pay $75/ month for 1/2 gig fiber service. We'd have that whether or not we ever add cable tv for work/ gaming/ general service. The comparison in our case is streaming services vs cable.

I need to have internet regardless, so I wouldn’t add that into the cost of streaming.

A basic cable bill from Comcast is about $80, not including any of the packages that would include HBO, which would add $15-20.

I cut the cord for two years...ran back to Comcast as soon as I could. Streaming services started getting wise and raising rates and that is going to continue as services like Di$ney+ and HBO Max become bigger and bigger. The price difference between internet + streaming and internet + cable was not that different and comcast had the superior DVR and channel lineup. We locked in our rate for two years and after we will re-evaluate.

As for shows, I saw some clips of Boba Fett randomly...good lord that show looks awful. First of all the guy playing Boba Fett is just too old and overweight for the part. Second, the so called great special effects were laughably bad and noticeable. I never got the love for the character anyways (he is a literal nothing in Empire and Jedi and the Jengo Fett story in the prequels was stupid) but I really don't get this. I get that the armor he wears is kind of cool but shouldn't he at least fit into the armor? I mean he looks like the cosplayers that show up at comic-cons. I was waiting for Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to show up and make fun of everyone in the scenes I saw they looked so bad. Man am I glad Di$ney destroyed Star Wars for me cause sitting through that would be difficult...and pretending to like it would cause me ulcers.

There are very few shows that would not be improved by this.

I've lost interest in MCU the way you have with SW. I doubt I will ever watch another MCU movie or TV show. They are entirely played out, even the meta-meta-meta ones.

Eventually you just have to admit a rubber sex doll is not as good as the real thing. Disney makes amazing rubber sex dolls but... over it.

Gilded Age.

Oh man, this is dumb. What if All American were about Astors and Vanderbilts? Hilariously stupid period piece, amazing costumes (I counted 7 different decades of fashion coexisting in the same room at the same time), some genuinely good writing along with raftloads of Upstairs/Downstairs cliches, some decent acting and some spectacular casting choices (a Gomez Adams backstory -- no wonder he liked trains! -- and the lead female character who sounds like she grew up in Santa Monica in the 1980s).

This is automatically Must See Teevee for me and Frau Doctor.

It's HOBO so I can only imagine the full frontal will follow. A until then, A+ after.

And don't sleep on Stanford White, Unexpected Voice of Reason.

That's by the guy who did Downton Abbey, so no surprise on the upstairs/downstairs stuff. I've been intrigued by what I've read thus far. Is that all a recommendation or not?

Oh fuck yes.

It's so over the top I can't even see the bird hats on the other side.

(I never saw DA so for all I know it's going to be a paint-by-numbers repeat cash dive, but it'll be new to me!)

The Fix. Thoroughly enjoyed this so far through 3 Eps. A description from Google:

Samuel L. Jackson narrates a look at the war on drugs that upends everything people think they know about addiction, from why people use drugs to how they're brought to market; includes a chronicle of the history of the war on drugs and its impact.

Funny how the best episode thus far of The Book of Boba Fett didn't even have Boba Fett in it. ;-)

Progress, I convinced Dr. Mrs. to stop watching it. She has been teetering on the edge of rejecting the SW universe of years and I think I have finally freed her. Next: MCU (it should be easy, people our age can take it or leave it).

OTOH, Peacemaker is genuinely good. It's all Cena -- he completely carries the show and the other actors are summer stock drop outs playing computer-generated cliches. But god d-mn if Cena isn't actually an extremely charismatic and funny guy. I had not seen him in anything else except this role, but I am very impressed. It's like what if Ahnold was a competent actor.

Cena is great. Very genuine guy that truly cares about his craft. Feels pretty weird saying that, but it's true. I've seen various interviews where he chronicles how his approach has shifted as he's gained more experience, and it is actually interesting.

I mean, who knows? That could easily be a curated image (Bob Hope was the biggest POS in Hollywood).

But I don't care about the meat puppet playing the role. They're actors; they're the opposite of people. I like him on camera. Off camera he has no relevance.

Boba Fett is a spin off Mandalorian that gives you a Mandalorian straight from the original trilogy. They're cash grabbing. They tried expanding the possibilities of the universe with move Episode 8 and failed. People want the same retreaded characters and information. They don't want something new. Mandalorian was interesting until it got to the last couple of episodes in season two and then it digressed right back to the same character set again.

I'm watching Boba Fett for what it is, not what it should be.

In case you're wondering, Cena's fulfilled a few hundred Make A Wish requests and he approaches every one of them with unbridled enthusiasm.

I never watched him wrestle but I love watching Cena on screen and everyone I know who has dealt with him has said he is about the most awesome and genuine person you can meet.

And yeah Peacemaker is maybe my favorite thing on TV at this point. It is so brilliant and walks the line so well it is just perfect. He is perfect in the role and the rest of the cast is A+.
