TV 19 - Simpsons Did It

I concur with Scooby on S2 of Perry Mason. Not only did it not disappoint, I thought it was more cohesive, I thought the storyline was a bit more interesting and realistic, and the supporting cast was fantastic.

S: The Last of Us, Perry Mason

A: Succession. If you have not yet, The Bear and Severance.

B: Barry this season, Mrs. Davis so far.

C: Ted Lasso has been meh this year but I trust it to get better. I'm watching The Diplomat which is phenomenally stupid but I love it; don't you judge me!

D: You might try The Big Door Prize. I gave up on it but it had potential. I guess it's a dumbed-down version of a much better book.

F: My wife loved Yellowjackets, I hated it. It may be a boy/girl thing.

I watched the Bear back when it came out. Loved it. Big Wilco fan and several of their songs are featured in the show so I was hearing about it long before it even premiered. Cant wait for the 2nd season and am really hoping it doesn't drop off. Also hoping, like others, that they don't wear it out.

I need to look into Apple+ or Apple TV or whatever because I do want to see Severance and Ted Lasso after hearing mostly good.

Haven't heard of The Diplomat.

I am cautiously optimistic about True Detective season 4 which should be coming later this year. S1 was superb, S2 was a huge letdown. S3 was a big improvement but still couldn't touch S1.

Most of my TV watching is re-watching stuff I've seen before because I need some background noise while I do other tasks (fly tying, LEGO building, art projects etc.). So its stuff like Bob's Burgers, the good seasons of the Simpsons, Brooklyn-99, Northern Exposure (dvd since its not streaming), West Wing, etc. Then when full seasons of new shows are available, I carve out time for them to focus on them only.

I'm looking at some of the credits for Last of Us and see Craig Mazin as the writer for tv and creator for tv. Look him up and see Chernobyl as writer and creator. So far so good. Then look a little further back and...not so good. Lots of crap. Quite the style change from writing movies like scary movie 4 to Chernobyl and Last Of Us.

I imagine they have to take lots of crap work to get their foot in the door.

"Writers Guild of America West @WGAWest: The Board of Directors of the @WGAwest and the Council of the @WGAeast, acting upon the authority granted to them by their memberships, have voted unanimously to call a strike, effective 12:01 AM, Tuesday, May 2."

Yeah it is going to be ugly. Streaming has really screwed over the writers and they are in it for the long haul to get what they are owed.

The GF and I finished Shrinking...what a great show! You could definitely tell it was a Bill Lawrence show I got all the good Scrubs vibes from it!

Haven't heard of The Diplomat.

Imagine somebody with insider State Department knowledge trying to cross In The Loop and The Americans. It's less funny than the former and less stupid than the latter, but it still has those pawprints on it.

I'm only a few episodes in but it can't pick a lane. It is trying to hold geek insiders like Veep but also throw out enough adventure com-dram for the morons to pay the bills. It's mostly surviving because Rufus Sewell is such a hoot.

Wait, Rufus Sewell is in it? *adds to watch list*

He is the show. The lead actress is underwhelming (pauses to cover head). The writing is Sorkin Standard cliche. The setting is great but somehow the sets themselves suck. So what's left is Sewell and some good supporting characters. It is definitely veering towards "so stupid it's good."

It's very like the British version of House of Cards.

Rufus rules.

I love Keri Russel but I feel like this show did her dirty. I watched it this weekend - rainy and cold, I wasn’t glued to my screen but had it on while doing other things. Kind of meh, fine.

season two already announced and I don’t really care

I had never seen Kerri Russell before. My reaction from the show is she is a poor man's Julia Roberts. Her claim to fame is she's married to Perry Mason.

TIL Rufus Sewell is the guy in Dark City.
